Having used Bennet's grammar alongside of both Gildersleeve and Lodge's and Allen and Greenough's, and having read quite extensively in Latin, I can safely say that Bennet's grammar is the best grammar for common use in reading Latin. It is my first and favorite reference grammar, and its smaller size means that it is easily portable. This new revised edition is very well organized.
I have a 1957 printing of Bennett's excellent grammar. Except for the binding and cover (wish it were true cloth like the 1957), this is well done. My high school instructor bemoaned back in the 1970's the passing of this grammar because at the time there were no typesetters left who could properly set the classical language with its macrons, etc. We were fortunate to get a copy when he received a box found in some school's lost-things room. Now, what with computers, books like this can live again. I'm thankful for Ms. Mahoney's having edited this. The layout is actually improved, making declensions and conjugations quickly readable. Out-standing!
I bought this text for my Latin Prose class and used it as a reference book. Thorough but not excessively so, the book makes a good addition to other Latin texts and is also useful as a review book.
Bennett is always a good reference. I like this one, examined by and revised by a real expert Latinist, a lot.
