I was trying to be smart about my book buying, which I generally do very well for myself. However with this book and its publisher there is a very big problem. This book is designed so that you have to buy it new! Save for the fact you want to read it for entertainment or leisure purposes. They do this by having the student (assuming of course anyone who buys this textbook is a student), require not only a pass code, but also a work manual, DVD, and a pocketbook dictionary. Which by now you may have guessed most of which is usable only once! If you are to Google the Vista site directly you can find the items that come packaged new separately. But by the time you add it together you were better off just buying it new from the college bookstore or the vhldirect site! So save yourself time,headaches,and money and do not buy this textbook used , unless you just want something to read for leisure. I hope this helps!
Do we really need a "revised" book for introductory Spanish every year? What are the revolutionary changes that are happening in the language that require American high school/college kids to take notice? Last time I checked, the past and future tense aren't being changed often.Additionally, does the 200 dollar price tag justify a group of generally ridiculous on-line exercises? And here, I thought the technological advertising gimmick of a CD+Website had died in the late 90s, after it was proven utterly worthless.This book is bought on the back of poor students for around 200 dollars, and is obsolete as soon as the purchase is completed. I will be recouping about 10% of the original purchase price, which only highlights the massive profit that the publisher must make from pillaging student's savings accounts.
Section 133 of the Higher Education Opportunity Act took effect in July, 2010. It requires textbook publishers to offer "unbundled" copies of textbooks and supplemental material.You can buy a used copy of a VHL textbook here at  and then go to the Web site store (VHLDirect.com) and purchase the access codes, lab manuals, separately.For example, if you find a used copy for $10 you can buy supersite access for $55 and spend just $65 instead of $139.This is true for ANY bundled textbooks - like those bundled MyMathLab books. You can buy/rent/borrow the textbook and purchase standalone access to the site if your instructor requires it.Also under Section 133, your college bookstore is REQUIRED to share the ISBN codes for assigned textbooks when you sign up for the class. You can quickly check to see that one section's instructor requires a $200 bundle and another section only requires a $58 textbook.All students should use this information to push back on usurious textbook prices and bundles.
The item name is listed as "Vistas, 4th Ed, Looseleaf Textbook with Supersite Code" so any reasonable person interested in purchasing this book would assume the book would contain the superset code however, it DOES NOT. Upon receiving this item I found out that the item was not what had been listed and I also find out that even if the code was included with the book being used the code would not have worked. None of that information was posted any where in regards to this item and it should have been. Continuing when I requested to return the item the seller was unnecessarily rude in their emails to me. I do not recommend this item to any one and I definitely do not recommend any one purchase anything from this seller.
I needed this for my community college class and this was a very great deal. It shipped quickly and all was great. But I received the package today and I was extremely disappointed. First off, that picture is false. Mine came in an extremely damaged white binder. As soon as I lifted it out of the box, all of the papers fell out of the binder. All the hole-punches were ripped. The binder had to be thrown away from the smashed clamps and if was ripped. There is not even a super code or anything. Pages were also not in order and there was EXTENSIVE writing on more than half the "book".PLEASE DO NOT BUY. Save yourself the money and invest in the real deal and buy as new. Just don't get it. Please.I'm very pissed off.
Says it comes with super site code but doesn't so don't the vistas books that say with a super site code thinking you're going to get one.
This book is absolutely horrible. Every page is so noisy you will get lost trying to find what it is they are actually trying to teach you. So much color, varied fonts, sizes of text, pictures, context boxes, no order whatsoever, will hurt your eyes. You will find that you will want to look for other books that just give you what you need to know while skipping the crap. The book has to be purchased with codes - or you are out of luck as the entire course at most Universities is given online. Numerous errors in the online materials will serve to drive you insane - and of course you can report it all you want, it won't help your grade, but it will slow down your entire Spanish class. Zero answers in the back of the book which means you will NEVER get a chance to see what the proper form looks like. In other words zero feedback. Isn't that nice?This book is widely used as it comes from a big publishing house and you know what that means - lots of kickbacks to school bookstores. I did not buy from  so the whole thing including the two codes package was about $260 bucks. Be VERY aware the book you see here will not come with the codes you need - unless it specifically says it does! Look carefully. I only use this book as I have to. You too, if you are required to buy this book will have to buy it - but make sure you go to the publishers website and factor in the cost of buying codes separately. This publisher has a new edition quite often as you can see - cool huh? They love that student aid/loan money. They rake every dime from the student - that is what these publishers do. They believe that it is better for them to have a new yacht then for students to eat - that's the beauty of being an oligarchic monster. Buy it but only because you have to - but remember the codes - you are dead in the water without them!!!!!
