I enjoy paranormal romances, I generally find it easy to get swept up into the characters and situation. Suspense of disbelief is typically very easy for me with these books, because I enjoy the concept of a world that includes the supernatural or paranormal.In this book, you're immediately thrust into the mind of one of the characters, understanding some of her origin and personality. It's simple, declarative writing that's effective at creating mood. Chaper two switches to another character's viewpoint. This shift would've been more effective for me had the voice of the character changed more - the way the thoughts were expressed were too similar to the first character. I still was interested enough to continue reading. Chapter three switches back to the first character and this switching chapter by chapter between the two characters continues throughout the book. For the most part when other minor characters speak,their voices are basically the same as the two main characters. This makes it harder to get into the tale because it stretches believability and causes the resulting story to have less depth than it theoretically could.This isn't a bad book but it could certainly be better. I'm blind and one benefit of this is that when a book, tv or movie is good -even if there's lots of characters- if I can tell the characters apart from what they're saying, I know I've stumbled onto something good. I don't have superhuman hearing, so speaking voices in the same general register can blend together, making it hard to differentiate between them. But if well-written, the way a character communicates and the words and phrasing a character uses make it possible for me to know who's speaking without someone telling me.This is one part of an ongoing series.
A good IDEA for a bookThis book is a short story that is the first part in a paranormal romance series. The book introduces us to Lucy. Starting out as a baby found on the side of the road in the middle of a snow storm, she grows up in the system as an unhappy child who suffers from nightmares. While growing up, she meets Daniel. His presence helps to calm Lucy’s nightmares until she reaches the age of 17 and they come back again. One night something happens at the home she’s at and as a result she finds herself questioning who she is and what her involvement is.Daniel knows Lucy’s history better that she does and knows why she is suffering the nightmares. He is a major player in her history and present. When Lucy finds herself in trouble he goes on the hunt for her which causes a chain reaction that could put him and Lucy in even more danger.Hellfire - What She Doesn't Know: (Paranormal Romance) (Book 1) (Paranormal Romance Series)ConclusionThis book is more of a chapter in a larger picture. I don’t know that I would actually call it a book. I was able to read it in approximately 40 minutes. I think the story line is a good idea but I believe that there is so much more that could be done with the story. I wanted the characters to hook me into the story; however, it always just seemed to fall short. A book needs to paint a picture and I found it to be lacking.The storyline itself has a great deal of potential. I want to know more about why Lucy felt like she was different. I want examples. I want to know more about her budding friendship and trust of Daniel.
