Marino's ICU Book has remained one of the most accessible and comprehensive intensive care resources available. The 3rd version, however, was woefully out of date -- until now. The 4th edition is fully updated, features colored illustrations and photographs, and offers a searchable online-version of the text for use with your iPad/smartphone/etc.Despite owning a library of critical care texts, I won't often find myself reaching for my copy of Vincent's Critical Care again. This is an indispensable resource for medical students, residents, fellows, attendings, Pas and critical care RNs, etc. More than just a technical manual, it is often insightful, whimsical, and poignant. There are very few medical references that you can sit down with and actually read recreationally, but this is one of them.
Everyone laughs when I tell them how this is the best book I've ever bought. I'm not kidding, if you do any sort of critical care work (ground or air transport, ICU, sick med-surg patients etc) you should definitely buy this book. The fact that you get the full, searchable version on inkling is amazing. I use this to look up all sorts of crazy patient conditions in flight, double-check medications or treatment plans, and just to get laughs. The author is SO good at making difficult concepts very easy to understand. A few of my coworkers have bought this as well. Buy the paper version to read, then install the Ebook version to use as a reference while working. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Fantastic book! Easy to read, with all the necessary and important information.A couple of things outdated but you can't ask in a book a 100% up to date information. The application for tablet and phone is by far the best feature of all! I never get caught without knowing at least something during ICU shifts.
Great book. Good information and is very easy to read. Love the Kindle format because I am able to have with me at all the times without hauling a heavy bag to work with me everyday. I consider this the ICU gold standard. Good price compared to other book of this quality.
Priceless book. As a 2nd year Medicine-Pediatrics resident (I only had 2 weeks of ICU my first year), I knew what to do in all situations using this book. Sometimes knew more than the 1st year fellow. Recommended the book to him.
I'm an ED nurse and I also pull time in the various ICUs. This book is, quite simply, *the* best intro to critical care that I've found (and I've perused a bunch of them).You may want to include others in your library as well but you won't want to be without Dr. Marino's fine effort.
This is a great reference for anyone working in the health care field. I work in medical devices, and a Dutch intensivist told me about this book. It is very easy to read, and the book is well organized. I highly recommend it.
Re-reading this book for board preparation, a couple of things stand out. Marino is excellent at challenging dogma and supports understanding the correct reasoning for medical pathophysiology. I find the style to be very readable and succinct. However, the editor of the kindle edition (am reading on an iPad) needs to be fired. There are typos, inaccurate figures/tables, and just plain odd typesetting that is quite distracting. Hopefully this will be corrected in future editions as I cannot imagine I am the only person reading this on an iPad.
