The book, in a vivid and detailed way, describes the depression, hesitation, loneliness and cynicism in his inner world, thus revealing the psychological character of contradiction of a young man in his adolescence. At the same time, it criticizes the hypocrisy of the adults. Holden is a typical young man with complex and conflicting character.
