This book is mostly photos and National Geographic knows photos. Unfortunately I made the mistake of thinking this was one of National Geographics guidebooks but it is not. The photos are wonderful but I was hoping for a guidebook to the park with maps and descriptions of the park and its layout. Later I found Yellowstone Treasures: The Traveler's Companion to the National Park by Janet Chapple (also at ) and that is the most awesome guidebook I have ever come across. Worth every penny. One other thing I found useful for planning trips to Yellowstone. Run google searches for videos on the subject like "Geyser Hill Yellowstone" or "North Rim Trail." This will give you visuals of where you are looking to go and some of the videos are quite good. I especially like videos that show park rangers giving their walking tours. Very valuable information can be gained from these videos. As a handicapped person with difficulties walking, the videos often show the trails or show stairs and give me some idea if I will be able to get around in these places. The guides give some information but it is nothing compared to seeing the actual sites.
The book is amazing with very beautiful pictures and text. However, the book I received looks like an old one with many folds on the pages. If you don't want a book, you can return it but please don't damage it,OK?Watch out your behavior, readers!
Not just a pretty picture book, although the photography is breath taking, but good historical insight as well as information about what you see in each of the geo-thermal areas. A beauty of a book.
This is just what you'd expect from National Geographic - gorgeous photography. Beautiful book. I've purchased other copies of it for friends.
More of a coffee table book or glorified magazine than the travel guide I was hoping for. Usu national geographic doesn't disappoint me...
