This book is a required supplemental for a graduate course in special education. I would give it 4.5 for the confusing format. As someone who did't know what the original IDEA said, the column-format is difficult to read. You're reading along and then it refers you back to the original column or gives a small exception. This is a book which would be much better in e-book format for scrolling. The constant page-flipping is annoying. I was told by a special education teacher at my work that although I was confused, it is one of the best books she has seen on the subject. Another textbook which has been helpful is Brief Reference of Student Disabilities (ISBN 0-7619-7894-1).
This is a great little book, not too wordy about what every teacher should know about the laws and regulations of IDEA 2004. It is only 168 pages and written in an easy format. On the inside cover, I found definitions and abbreviations to be very helpful. It is a nice little resource to keep at your fingertips.
This book not only compares the former law to the newest law, but gives a summary description after each section.
