This fascinating book opened my mind to the vast frontiers of practical neurology. This book is one of the operating manuals that should come with each human brain. The most important thing I learned from it is that the human brain is its own entity, with its own ways of working, internal language, and priorities that might have little or nothing to do with the priorities of the person and that for most of us are completely shrouded in mystery. It is specifically this vast divide between person and brain, that facilitates a great many aspects of addiction, decreased mental function, and many other cognitive/brain-based conditions. When a person realizes that their brain isn't just a clump of electric jello in their skull and begins dialoging with their brain in language that their brain understands and that address the brain's unique priorities, healings become possible, that were not possible through other treatment modalities. Here is a personal example. As a result of exposure to a highly toxic chemical, I got a headache that was a 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. That headache basically incapacitated me for six months. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to blink my eyes. It hurt too much to chew, so I had to eat liquid foods or very soft foods. Over-the-counter pain meds didn't help. Narcotics didn't help. Neuroptimal neurofeedback did help: For the duration of the first treatment, the pain disappeared, then right after the treatment the pain returned. Second treatment, relief from pain during the treatment and for half an hour after. Third treatment, pain free for two hours after the treatment. After ten treatments, the pain went down to 3 - 4, which is manageable with no meds. Now that I have had some experience with neurofeedback, I am going to read this book again.
