Crowdocracy: The End Of Politics (Wicked & Wise)
Available To Downloads

Crowdocracy : The End of Politics discusses one of the world's most debated and critical issues - who decides our future and how should we be governed? If a political party receives a tenth of all votes but no representation in government, can we claim the system is democratic and people's voices are being heard? Should an international political body, bank or committee be able to decide the destiny of a country and its government? It is clear that democracy is struggling, political representatives seemingly more inclined to pursue their own ambitions than proactively address the challenging issues facing society. But is there any alternative and can we chart a wiser way forward? Most national populations feel disenfranchised with the political process and largely powerless to make any real difference themselves. Crowdocracy offers a radical new way forward, one that allows all of us - not just some of us - to participate in how we are governed. It offers a compelling examination of the contemporary relationships between people and politics. Crowdocracy suggests a new model for how people can decide their own future, create a new political landscape, and ultimately shape and govern their communities. Crowdocracy is the second title in the ground-breaking Wicked & Wise series, a range of topical books that explore hotly debated and 'wicked' issues facing the planet and its people, offering intelligent, challenging and 'wise' ways forward that may be able to break through existing intractable positions. Each book in the series is co-authored by renowned leadership consultant Alan Watkins and an eminent thinker in each subject field.

I'm greatly enjoying this book and share the authors' convictions that crowdocracy (radically enhanced direct democracy) is the inevitable future we'll realize before too long. As for how long that will take we don't know, but I'm optimistic that in the next couple of decades we'll start to see very serious efforts at local and national crowdocracy start springing up.My main quibble so far, which may be more than a quibble, is the authors' strange choice of demonizing the term "democracy" based on the correct assertions that today's version of democracy in the US and UK (the two countries canvassed in this book) are highly problematic in various ways and aren't in fact very democratic. But the cure for bad democracy is more democracy not less democracy. The cure for representative democracy (our current system) is more direct democracy, crowdocracy. So it's a matter of labels and branding. Clearly the authors made a choice to demonize democracy as a branding choice to distinguish crowdocracy from today's representative democracy. But crowdocracy is simply a more comprehensive version of direct democracy, and still very much "democracy," "rule by the people." So I sincerely wish that that the authors' hadn't chosen to demonize "democracy" when they should have always used the qualifying "representative" on their path to promoting crowdocracy. That said, I'm very much on board with this effort and my nascent attempt to do my part can be found at worldania dot net, a not yet live "cloud country" akin to the already live bitnation dot co and similar cloud country efforts.

One of the most important writings about the political system of our time.

Excellent!
