Comparative Politics: Domestic Responses To Global Challenges
Available To Downloads

Balancing theory with application and featuring an engaging, student-friendly writing style, the Ninth Edition of COMPARATIVE POLITICS uses a unique theme-Domestic Responses to Global Challenges-to introduce key concepts and examine the growing interdependence of strong and weak states. COMPARATIVE POLITICS takes an in-depth look at ten countries and the European Union, framed within broader discussions in the part-opening chapters on Industrialized Democracies, Current and Former Communist Regimes, and The Global South. The introduction establishes a comparative structure based on five themes: conflict, democratization, economic liberalization, globalization, and challenges, which are then explored for each country. The countries discussed are categorized by economic development, helping students hone their skills of comparison, synthesis, and interpretation by studying countries of similar economic status. With this uniquely effective text, students can gain an understanding of important political trends and concepts, an exposure to politics in a number of countries, and a desire to dig more deeply into the fascinating field of comparative politics.

Not nearly as excellent as other Pearson Education and Cengage Learning textbooks. Single author format (Hauss ?) contains blatant falsehoods about completely indisputable and verifiable factual statistics (eg "GNP of Britain"), and also fails to define some extremely important terms (best example in the first three Chapters: on p35, "fascism" is mentioned twice, very briefly, and never defined. Apparently p35 is the only mention of "fascism" in this particular textbook, a huge omission of explanation). Apparently, from skimming the first four Chapters, this textbook suffers from inadequate peer review and deficient nonexistent fact-checking. On the plus side, many of the graphics and Tables are very helpful, especially to lower-division students. Among the explanations which are actually stated, most are clear enough to understand. However the glaring omissions lead me to wonder what else might be missing from this study of comparative government.Course: Comparative Government**Mack McCord, Cerro Coso Community College, California

Rented it for a class. Seems like it won't be a problem to condense.
