" This course incorporated fewer words than many of the other vocabulary cd's i have listened to. Instead of long word lists, definitions and sample sentences, the professor emphasized the nuances of words, word origins, interesting stories and tricks to help memorize words.I wish my high school teachers had used this professor's method of teaching words by concentrating on words origins, instead of the brute force memorizing word list method. "
Extremely rich course. Of course, one should not expect learning the entire English words in one course, but Dr. Flanigan teaches you the most effective tools to maximize your vocabulary on your own, in addition to teaching you some target words in each lecture. Lectures have been designed optimally to let you hear the target words in different situations, and the target words of each lectures are used to teach other target words in other lectures, which gives you the most possible exposure to how these words are used. Dr. Flanigan also indirectly teaches you other high yield words, that are not among the target words, but are used in the lectures to have your ears familiarized with them. Dr. Flanigan is also extremely friendly and easy and enjoyable to listen to, which is another plus. In a nutshell, highly recommended.ps- Those who are in need of transcript books you can buy it directly from The Great Courses for a cheap price.
When you buy these courses from the Great Courses web site you get a downloadable course guide, not available on Audible. To be fair, I rarely read them myself, but if you're really studying intensively you may find these materials helpful, especially good to see spelling of place names.
