Was hesitant at first to purchase due to some negative reviews but took the chance considering they said to have updated the product. Pleasantly surprised with the updates and the ways they addressed the issues others were facing. Bottom line, it is an excellently reformatted edition. It is utilized by our entire departmentas a great guide to have available during training and to have as areference.Frank Johanson, MDAssociate DirectorDepartment of Anesthesiology and Critical Care MedicineTeamHealth Anesthesia Dallas
This is a useful compact resource, essentially listing and displaying the AHA flowcharts. As such it is useful for quick reference and revision, and thus encapsulates the content of the current "streamlined" AHA publications. It shares the characteristic of the AHA print publications that there is not much background science included, thus readers wanting to know WHY the protocols are as they are will need to look elsewhere. But in its role as an electronic portable form of the Essentials of the AHA manual, this kindle version succeeds. I will recommend it to my trainee staff.Note that some algorithm charts are a bit difficult to read on small screens like iPad mini.
I can only comment on the version for the Kindle; the print version may be fine. Two main complaints: the font is very small and does not scale. It appears to be a photo image rather than a text. The second complaint was poor proofreading - there were multiple errors, but the one that finally pushed me to return it was in the algorithm for symptomatic bradycardia: "tachyrhythmia" was written multiple times as the indication for Atropine.
Have taken ACLS for years, since i have to take it every 2 years and I use it weekly if not daily. BUT every few years, changes are made that can throw off a passing score. This was a handy and quick reference to get me through the renewal test.
It shouldn't be taken as a primary source for the ACLS course but it's very helpful for an ease up read before and after, to me I find it convenient just to have a look around and refresh the current topics while I'm riding the bus or taking a coffee break.
this does correlate with most of the current version of AHA ACLS. if you've done your ACLS re-cert several times and work in an ER or unit where you are consistently using your skills this is great, for a refresher. If you however are not strong in the ACLS process its better to just buy approved AHA ACLS book.
I like the convenience of a portable version of the official AHA book. The entire content is almost the same but a bit more challenging and thus I enjoy studying this version in addition to the official AHA book. Although the training center where I took my ACLS only endorses and recommends the official AHA study material, I studied this one in addition because its convenience of having it in my phone so I was able to study anywhere I went!
The content was fine but the algorithms are not text-based and impossible to read. It's time for my ACLS provider review class and I inadvertently tossed my AHA ACLS book and cards. I purchased this ebook thinking it was reasonably priced and convenient, but with the impossible to read algorithms, the ebook is not particularly useful.
