I bought this book because my usual guidebook sources (Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Moon, etc...) did not have anything current on Colombia and my sister and I were headed for a 2-week vacation in Bogota. Though the book contains a lot of information, it isn't organized very well. If you just sat down and read it from cover to cover, you can probably find what you want to know, but you'd better put a sticky-note on that page because neither the table of contents nor the glossary will lead you back there. Another problem is that lists (restaurants, hotels, museums, ect...) are in alphabetical order instead of by area. That's not very helpful.

It was helpful to have this book in Bogota. I like that it gives so much information on history and culture of the area. In that respect, it felt a little bit like the old Lonely Planets. (It also conveyed an endearing passion for the place that I used to find in the Lonely Planet books back when they were worth buying.)Unfortunately, the book fell almost completely flat when it came to maps. There was not a decent map of the whole city to allow people to get a good visual sense of what was where. The detailed maps were lacking in terms of level of detail and coverage. Also, the restaurant/shop listings are quickly becoming outdated. The book is only from 2012, and the few places I trekked to find were gone. Still, it was definitely better than not having it and I appreciate the effort on the part of the authors to pull all the information together.A final note is the quirky feel of a bilingual book with the English and Spanish on opposite pages. For people who just read one or the other, it is fairly inconspicuous. For people who can read both, it's easy to lose track of the language and feel like you're reading information you just read - as if the authors are repeating themselves. Not a problem, just a weird sensation.

This book has a lot of good information about Bogota. But I was looking for more in terms of recommendations for touristic points of interest, suggested walks, and sites grouped by neighborhoods. You will need to do work on the side to construct your own itinerary.

This book is not particularly helpful for actually getting around Bogota and doing things. It gives an overview of the neighborhood and generic information about culture, food, shopping, etc, but every time I try to use it to help me decide what to do and where to go I end up having to look online. Do yourself a favor and buy a different book.

I consider myself an experienced traveler. Rarely have I come across a more exhaustive and detailed description of a city as Bogota, A Bilingual Guide to the Enchanted City. Everything you want to know, and there is a lot, about this city is there. Culturally unsurpassed, and full of opportunities to enjoy a visit to the fullest. I recommend it without reservations.

Love the way this travel guide is formatted! Photographs are absolutely spectacular. Complete coverage of important sites to see in Bogota as well as comprehensive background of the history of Bogota. The American authors are true champions of Bogota, understanding the remarkable cultural and historical gifts of this beautiful city, and coaxing all of us to visit this extraordinary destination.
