The 19th century neo-Kantian philosopher Hermann Cohen has provided significant underpinnings for understanding Judaism as a religion with a rational and universal character, as a religion of hope for the future. The eight essays selected for Reason and Hope lay out Cohen’s exposition of God as the Uniquely One and explore the universal implications of this idea. A selection of some of the essays Cohen wrote towards the end of his life on Jewish themes. Gives a good overview of how he sought to reconcile aspects of Kant's philosophy with Judaism. He particularly focused on the ethical dimension of religion (indeed he seemed to think that was the only dimension that mattered).
