From options for treatment of end-stage renal disease to transplantation and post-operative management, this very complete and efficient overview offers new learners adequate information as well as a handy reference to renal transplant clinicians. This book was an invaluable study reference for my professional certification. The information reflects current UNOS policy regarding HLA tissue matching and cadaveric kidney distribution for transplantation. A must!
I discovered that there is a secret counter that limits your refreshes of this book (say, across multiple Kindle devices as you upgrade, or replace lost, broken or defective units). Once you reach the cap you need to repurchase the book if you want to download it again. For those who've had a few Kindles/androids/macs that have died a natural death, one would hope that deregistering the dearly departed device would free up that license. Apparently what you have to do is remove the book from a device, then sync that device. That tells 's system that the book is now only on 'X' number of devices, so there is one license available. Unfortunately it did not work for me because once a device dies, there's no deleting it. Lesson learned. I am a nephrologist-in-training in Los Angeles. During our renal transplant months, this is the only book I carry around.It has everything a nephrology fellow needs to know about transplant: including transplant selection, periop and postop complications, types and treatment of rejection, all the information you need regarding immunosuppressive medications, and concise what-to-do-on-call information for fellows taking care of post-op renal transplant patients. I found that I never needed to look in another book during my transplant month.What an awesome book!
Quite a detailed book. Not sure if Nephrology fellows have the time to read through all of it. You dont really need to know all of it for learning transplant nephrology in your fellowship. However I think its still a good reference book to have.
This book has (just about) everything a renal fellow needs to know when starting fellowship. I read it before starting fellowship, was on transplant the first month, and my attending said, "You seem to know everything already!" Of course, you'll need to read primary papers if you want more in-depth or up-to-date information about a specific topic, but as a background primer this book is terrific.
