Kapuna Hospital is a beacon of hope and the center of a community in Papua New Guinea. Uncover the story of resilience and hope found in a bush hospital clinging to the edge of one of the world’s last frontiers, Papua New Guinea. On the brink of civilization, follow the incredible story of the Calvert family from New Zealand, making one of the last frontiers their home and legacy. The story is told by author and missionary, Erin Foley, a graduate of Hillsdale College in Michigan who calls Boise, Idaho her home when not traveling the globe. In 2011, she left the corporate world and “American Dream” to pursue the best-life-ever as a missionary in Australia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, Spain, and France before settling in Cambodia.

If you’re looking for adventure, you’ve come to the right place. I loved walking and riding with a young woman totally committed to making a difference in the world, in a land, in a culture and in the hearts and lives of individual persons. What she didn't expect was to be captivated by and falling in love with a people. Thanks Erin for sharing your lifelong and personal mission. Mine is changed because of yours.

What an engaging, heartwarming, and optimistic story about the courageous missionaries providing medical aid at Kapuna Hospital in Papua, New Guinea. A true adventure and education about the reality of life for the people there, and how medical missionaries make a difference every day of their lives. Highly recommended.

I really loved this book. The writing is clear and precise. The narrative places the reader in the action. Erin is a gifted writer who conveys the emotion and drama of each situation making the reader experience each situation.

Erin Foley shares stories about the people at Kapuna Hospital in Papua New Guinea who have dedicated their lives to providing desperately needed healthcare to the families of this poor, undeveloped area. The stories tell of tragedies and triumphs they encounter in their work, as well as the adventures and difficulties of day-to-day living in a primitive area.I recommend this book to anyone wanting a glimpse of a life of service and sacrifice in a third world country, and strongly recommend it to anyone who has ever thought about signing up for it!

Such an incredible book - beautifully written and so easy to feel as though you are right in the middle of it all. I loved the personal stories intertwined with informative anecdotes about the area, the hospital, the people. Some of the stories are just heartbreaking, but the hope that Kapuna brings to the locals and to the community it serves, not only spiritually but also practically, is just amazing to read and you can just see why it left such an impact. Thank you, Erin, for pursuing your gifts in writing to publish this beauty - really leaves a mark when you close the final page (or in my case swipe across the kindle!) and now I kinda want to visit this place! I spent most of the book imagining what it would be like, the words made it easy for me, so thank you for that gift of allowing people to journey to this place when it may not be logistically possible for us. But mostly, the goal that was set out, to raise awareness of medical issues and what the people face, and the challenges to love deeper, to step out further, to challenge ourselves to learn more, to care more, was something that really stood out for me while reading this, so for that alone, it's one of the most inspiring books I have read in a long time.Definitely, most assuredly highly recommend this. No words can really express just how highly!

I love reading about someone who tells her story and the story of the people of Papua New Guinea with relevance to this mixed-up world. It makes a person think about the sacrifices that medical missionaries make. It shows the sense of family that people with a mission can have in places of hardship all over the world. Erin gives us stay-at-home types a glimpse into the life of those who are not afraid to attempt to change a remote part of the world with reverence for the native people's culture. Thanks, Erin, for an inspiring book!

I have enjoyed this book so very much. It's such a beautiful reflection of Christian love in action. Erin does such a lovely job of capturing your heart and engaging you through the story. It felt as if I were on this journey with her. For anyone that needs a fresh reminder of what truly matters in life this is a must read. A special thank you those who serve in the mission field and their willingness to inspire us by taking us along with them through thier writing.

This is a great and easy to read book. The author really makes you feel like you are walking with her during each story. It has moved me and stirs emotions in me about my first mission trip and the calling God has placed in me. I highly recommend this book to any adventure seeker or just someone seeking about what is next in life. It will open your eyes to see more of how God moves.
