I wasn't sure what to expect from the newly-released Youcat Prayer Book, and I wasn't even sure how I would review it. Even if *I* love it, is it something I'll share? Give? Promote?As it turns out, I had nothing to fear. It's done well and I'm really enjoying the journey I'm taking through it.The first section is a two-week prayer book. The second section is a series of prayers.After the introductory letter, entitled "You can pray," there is a "Little school of prayer." It was written specifically for me, thank you very much. There are ten tips/steps and they're written in the vein I'd expect from the Youcat. They're helpful but not complicated, simple but not down-your-nose, insightful but not so deep my brain cracked in two.The format of the two-week prayer book, the first section, includes a morning and an evening option. They include ancient prayers, traditional prayers, and psalms. Each one takes approximately two minutes, depending on the number of interruptions you have from people under four feet tall.The second section is one part treasury, one part awesome. There are categories such as "Praising the Father" and "Adoring God," but there's also "Being called and responding" and "Calling in time of need." These prayers are the ones you'd expect, but there are also scripture passages, writings of mystics and saints, and much more.This is a book I'll be using myself and sharing with quite a few others in my life.Don't consider yourself youth? Well, don't let THAT stop you. You won't be sorry you picked it up and let it lead you closer to God.
Here's what I really like about the Youcat: Youth Prayer Book1. Its prayers come from a diverse set of sources, both contemporary and ancient, as well as culturally.2. The prayers are meaningful, relevant to today's youth, and are neither trite nor patronizing.3. The length of each day's prayers is just about right.4. Especially intriguing are the quotes found in the gray sidebar columns: they are wise and thought-provoking gems from several mystics, philosophers, theologians, and writers.5. The book is simple, yet attractive in its layout: the pictures and graphics are nice without being distracting.I'm a teacher at a Catholic high school and I use this book with my students. I've also found it spiritually uplifting in my own prayers.
I am a CCD teacher and I just love this youth prayer book. I teach kinder CCD so I can't incorporate a whole lot of it in my classes, but I personally enjoy reading it for my own spiritual enrichment. The format is very straightforward and concise. I LOVE all YOUCAT products! There is ALWAYS something new to learn about the Catholic faith.
It has diverse and deep prayers are made for the speed of our time. Just with a few minutes of prayer or a long one my spirit feels fufilled.
It helps to exactly how to pray and put our attention to God more with habits, tips and prayers for different occasions! Good buy :)
wonderful companion to the YouCat. I was so excited when this and the YouCat Study Guide came out. I loved the YouCat, but when they come along with more books to help our youth on their adventure how can we do wrong in our encouragement?
Great Book , short prayers and nice design...You really want to wake up and pray and go bed and pray again!I really love the small quotes at the side of the pages!Great for young people and adults!
Nice book for teens new to the faith. Basic user friendly. Easy to read and comprehend. Older teens may feel this is to simple.
