This is a great textbook. Very informative without being boring. Includes personal reports from patients, families, and experienced nurses. Each chapter concludes with a short quiz to help focus on the main points. Includes assessment tools such as the Mini Mental Status Exam. Perfect for beginners. This book is a refreshing balance of educational and enjoyable reading.
This is pretty much the same thing as the 10th edition. The only time I ran into any issues is when I had to do a case study that wasn't included in this version. I just copied it from one of my colleagues. All that you need to know about basic psych nursing is in this book.
The new edition has been just published in July 2012. I needed the textbook in Aug, so I tried to save a little bit of money to buy the old edition. It worked. My instructor still used this edition, so I did not have any problem at all. I could save almost 80 dollars. The contents are same, but the chapter numbers and the box numbers are a little different from the new edition. This book shows the important parts in "bold" format, so if you do not have time to read all, just read the "bold" parts and around blue colored words, and read all boxes and tables. Use online resources for practice tests.
Clearly presented material in an organized manner. Examples of Communication techniques and Care Plan options are useful for students. Medication information can be found in chapters covering the diagnosis (ie: antidepressants and mood stabilizers in Mood Disorder chapter) as well as the chapter on Psychopharmacology.
It is just like what I can call a psychiatric GPS to locate the a-z of psychiatric/mental heath nursing. Case studies are easy to follow and one can easily animate these cases to enable one put them into actual practice.
I purchased this book for nursing school. I found it to be well written. The author really is able to help me understand the different diagnoses. I still have this book after graduating!
I used this for my BSN courses and it was quite interesting and helpful. I sold mine after my course was complete.
It is a great book to learn from. I used it when studying for my Psych certification. It helped fill in some gaps.
