A Color Atlas Of Parasitology
Available To Downloads

This atlas is intended as an aid to students enrolled in a laboratory course in parasitology. Specimens that are typically studied in such a course have been photographed with a digital camera and arranged in plates. A total of 1,373 parasite images are included on 135 plates. A brief explanation of each plate is on the facing page, emphasizing major characteristics of the parasite's structure, life cycle, and medical significance. Unlike previous laser- or solid ink-printed editions, the 8th edition has been commercially offset printed on 128 gsm glossy art paper with wire-o binding. A copy of the CD, "Electronic Atlas of Parasitology" is included with the printed atlas. All orders are shipped within 2 business days by USPS Priority Mail (usually 2-3 day arrival).

I think this book makes a great companion to any parasitology text. It covers the "major" parasites and some vectors in example photos of perfect clarity. If you must identify such specimens in the laboratory, this is a great refrence book. Most examples you could come across will not be this clear, so the atlas will help you note the major differences between parasites, making identification easier. There is little or no "background noise" like there are on most slides available today so that you can focus on the parasite itself.

I recently acquired a copy of this book, and found it quite good, the photographs present throughout the book, were well done and good for a atlas to have near the microscope as more than representation of the parasite appears, a failing found in some of the more established atalses. The fact that all of the photos are photos and ther are a number of them makes the book usefull in the lab environment. The accompany burst with each photo is concise and free of extraneous detail. However there are two critisms, the book would fae better if printed on a water resistant paper and a stronger back and front cover which a fixed by adding by own stronger front and back cover. this relates to the spiral bound edition. This review is of the newest edition. The new edition is on good papaer is spiral bound and has a good cover the CD adds volumes to the Book. The author has improved on the book. This is a book that would benefit by being in any parasitologists. Library

Great atlas! It's organized really well and the variety and amount of examples are really helpful when learning how to read smears. I also like that it provides a brief intro into the organisms and the captions are very helpful when looking at the pictures. One tiny nitpick though: I wish there were more pictures of trichrome stains rather than the iron hematoxylin for the amoebas. But that's just a preference and not a fault of the book.

I find this atlas extremely helpful. It was supposed to be a supplement to my Microbiology textbook for the Parasitology chapter, but I find this atlas is an even more powerful tool when used in conjunction with the CDC parasitology website. It includes detailed graphics, the life cycles mentioned by CDC, plus many different pictures of the same specimens to compare and contrast with. Nearly all of the organisms from my textbook were mentioned or thoroughly presented in picture and different stages and this is what I needed most as a student studying from a clinical findings perspective. It goes without saying that the CD included with this atlas is also very helpful as the author took a lot of time to design a comprehensive "study guide" online with quizzes that challenged the reader to recognize the same concepts through different types of questions. Overall, I got more than I expected when I purchased this book. Don't be fooled by its simple binding and cover-- it is packed with visuals!

This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it to anyone taking a medical parasitology course, especially one with a laboratory component. The quality and scope of the images are outstanding, and everything we have covered in my parasitology class has been included in the book. It is a wise investment for anyone with a need to identify laboratory specimens of human parasites.

For anyone in need of a reliable parasitology guide, Sullivan's atlas is a wonderful addition to any medical library. The detailed frames of several medically important parasites provide examples of developemental stages, organismic features, and complete life cycles. The atlas also offers excellent distinctions between larval stages, and beautiful color imagery.

I have used this atlas for several years. It is an ideal tool for the lab portion of Human Parasitology.

This book which also includes a CD is printed on high quality paper. The images are crisp, and there is more than one picture of the parasites in question. This makes this atlas better value for money than many other larger and much more expensive tomes. The dersction by each set of pictures is concise and it as the title says is an atlas. You may want to go to the more expensive books if you want more of a textbook. The quizzes and test and teach sections on the CD are good, as is the flashcards section on the disk. To summerise, a good text, and CD well worth the purchase price and usuable as a bench atlas in the clinical laboratory, and as a learning resource.
