We have used Borch maps on four trips to Europe and even to the east coast of the U.S. They are by far the best. The test on the map is printed clearly with demarcations for important sights and landmarks. The maps are laminated which allows us to use dry erase markers to mark places that are of special interest to us (hotels, etc.) without permanently damaging the maps. We currently own over ten Borch maps, some country maps like Austria, Italy, England maps as well as numerous city maps like Vienna, Roma Paris and London to name a few.
The level of detail in the map was superb and essential for navigation in Rome. Having the names in Italian made matching to street signs a snap. Level of detail much superior to 'tourist' maps and lead to the discovery of several venues that we would have otherwise not visited. Transit info with metro stops and main bus lines was critical in easing transport times and opening up more venues for us during the visit. Heavy laminated card stock make the map a good long-term investment. Very highly recommended.
If you want something more than the usual 'highlights' map that comes with most guidebooks, you will love this map. Detailed, organized, easy to read, sturdy and good over-all size. You can actually read the names of the streets. Worth the price.
An essential tool for anyone living or visiting Rome for more than a week. I used this map all the time. If covers most post of the inner city and surroundings. I'm getting nostalgic just thinking about using this map! But my bitter-sweet remembrance does not cloud my judgement. This is a good map.
You're better off with the maps you can get at your hotel, or at virtually any newsstand. Or the map on your smartphone. We bought this and found it hard to read, with many streets mislabeled. I suppose it will hold up longer through rain, and being folded and unfolded constantly (as one is wont to do with a map), but that's about it. Not necessary.
Borch Maps in my opinion are the best out there as they have the popular spots marked on the map and are laminated so that you can mark them up yourself and then wipe them clean when you are done. Love them.
The map itself is very complete! Great informational source, but you'd better bring a magnifying glass with you for this map. It was impossible to read on the street - much too small print. I used it extensively in the hotel at night to plan the next day's walking plans, but was not able to use it at all while walking.
This laminated map helped us out on multiple occasions during a recent trip to Rome. The streets there are poorly marked and nearly impossible to navigate without a solid map. This map had all the streets and was well designed. I do wish the center city section was a bit larger to make it a little easier to read, but we were able to find our way using this. It was sturdy and survived life in my travel bag for a week.
