I am loving this book. I needed a refresher and to be challenged with new guitar chords. This is the perfect tool. As a voice teacher I understand the importance of a straight forward approach to growing musical skills. For guitar, this is it.
I purchased Micah Brooks' first installment in this series, Worship Guitar In Six Weeks: A Complete Beginner's Guide to Learning Rhythm Guitar for Christian Worship Music, at the beginning of the summer. I am excited he now has a second book, 42 Chords Everyone Should Know. What a perfect way to end a summer and segue into fall. Micah Brooks is both a talented musician AND a gifted teacher. For anyone who would love to play guitar but frets over a perceived lack of talent, Micah shows us some tricks of the trade. Sure, some of us are born with more God-given musical ability than others, but we can all learn to play if we follow Micah's instructions. And remember to practice! Wonderful book from a wonderful musician/teacher. By the way, I saw from the "about the author" that Micah and his wife have welcomed a third child this summer. Congratulations and God bless you and your family.
"42 Guitar Chords Everyone Should Know" is a super handy reference for experienced players as well as beginners. The author does an excellent job of explaining how the chord is constructed as well as how it is played. The grouping of the chord families is a significant concept because players can leverage these groupings to accelerate their ability to transpose on the fly. I am very impressed with the thoroughness of the content and the clear explanations. It is very well illustrated and the chord charts are easy to see. Well done.
Great book for guitar players of any level. It's layed out in a straight forward way so if you just want to see how play a certain chord or if you want to understand how the chord is constructed (theory for music nerds) ...It has that too. Also, good book to set on the coffee table and impress your friends that you are learning to be a guitar ninja in your spare time.
Well-written, great way to learn more chords, even for seasoned guitar players who want to expand their chord repertoire.Once again, Micah has taken a well-designed approach to teaching via text. He writes to every intellect level so that the young reader can understand, yet older readers do not feel patronized.This book is not necessarily for absolute beginners-some basic knowledge of the guitar, and how to read finger placement charts is needed. However, Micah's Worship Guitar In Six Weeks addresses that. I see this book as being the next step.As a veteran music teacher of 20 years, I appreciate the approach, and overall think this is a great tool for anyone wanting to broaden their guitar skills!
A great follow up to Worship Guitar in Six Weeks. A must, for any student who wants to continue to learn more guitar chords in an easy to follow, logical manner. Great starting and stopping points within the book, so you can learn, practice, and review chords at your own pace.
This book is a great next step for me as I begin to learn to "play" at the age of 55. I now have my fingers hardened up and moving around a bit, but have been stuck on the same 7-10 chords. This really opens up new sounds and movements, along with working out my new finger muscles and muscle memory. Also, there is great writing for us simpletons on some of the music theory as to how these new chords fit together, Keith Urban never taught me that! This book has helped me to continue to expand the artistic/music side of my old brain as I ride toward the retirement years. Thanks Micah!
