The world of abdominal transplants – especially involving the liver – was once a rarified place. But as more and more medical centers have developed the capability to perform these complex surgeries, the care of patients has become an urgent matter and one that is of widespread interest. In this well-organized book, Dr. Ali Al-Khafaji, of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, lays out the key issues and the best practices associated with pre- and post-operative care for each surgery and each of the many complications. Because UPMC was for many years the epicenter of this activity, under the transplant pioneer, Dr. Thomas Starzl, the UPMC team probably has more experience in the field than any other medical center. Each chapter is written by a noted, experienced practitioner, or sometimes is co-written with Dr. Al Khafaji. Among these experts, incidentally, is Dr. Su Min Cho, the well-known gastroenterologist and Dr. Al-Khafaji’s wife. The book is number six in the Pittsburgh Critical Care Medicine Series, published by Oxford University Press, and it is one of the finest examples in a very good group of titles.
This concise book contains wealth of information that is hard to find elsewhere. Extremely useful to both junior and senior doctors alike, as well as medical students. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn more about abdominal transplant.
This book gives a good introduction in that field from an oncologist's view. The needs to read this book may be different from those who take direct care of transplant patients.
It's a very nice choice
not what i expected. A basic book.
