This is one of my most looked-at atlases out of the 15 or so that I own. I don't live in Missouri, but I have gone there on vacation a few times. It has come in very handy when I try to find some nice attractions around where I'm headed. And that's the reason I like it. Its gazetteer section is excellent! It includes: attractions, historic sites, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, unique natural features and more. With all of these activities to choose from it is easy to plan a trip using nothing more than this atlas! The MO atlas is at 1:200,000 scale (the scale Delorme uses for nearly all their west-of-Mississippi maps). It is printed in the "type-B", as I call it, format. This is Delorme's more modern map style: larger font, different colored roads, and slightly overlapping topo maps. It has contour intervals at 120 ft, and is shaded relief for better perspective on topography.Overall, if you live in Missouri or are going to visit Missouri you WILL want this atlas, so PICK IT UP!
We had an atlas like this for our native state of Illinois. It is easy to use and affords a detailed "big picture" that GPS can't provide. We used this for genealogical digging into the back country of southeastern Missouri and found our destination every time, plus parks, forests and other points of interest. We will use it for years to come!
You just can't beat a DeLorme map book for getting you places. You also need a full page state map so you can get an overview, but the details on each page of a map will show you every road available and every park and other feature inlcuding the type of terrain. I depend on these entirely, in my home state and every other state I visit.
We moved to the Lake of the Ozarks about a year ago and even though I have a gps on my phone, there have been times that I lose service and have to stop and ask for directions. Not a problem of course, but sometimes the weather is bad or I'm just lazy...OR, I just want to take another way home and explore my beautiful new home/state/roads and I want to know exactly where I am.In my job, I drive quite a bit and this book has saved my life many times....of course, it's big and I can't carry it in my purse, but it's nice to have a backup if I need/want it.
Have carried an earlier version in my vehicles for years. Great resource and a solid buy. Just enough detail to get you where you need to be and much more detailed than your standard, freebie road map. (But not as detailed as a topo.) Would NOT replace a topo if you're on foot for a number of reasons. My old copy was sun bleached, stained and dog eared from over a decade of use. Great resource to have in your car when you leave the main roads for whatever reason.
A very helpful and thorough atlas and guide. The size is great, although not really a travel size, it does fit well enough in a seat back if needed. Readability was fine and it was easy to start plotting out conventional trips and also use to sync up with possible GPS routes too.I'd recommend a map like this if you're moving into the state or want to further explore it. There are a lot of nice guides included within that can help you explore the regions a lot more county by county.
On a trip through Missouri, having the map helped me find where I was going; it is easy to read, and made navigation a snap.It also was shipped rapidly, and made it prior to the date of the trip. I recommend these atlases for anyone who is traveling and likes maps.
We've been driving all over the southern part of the state, and this has been a tremendous help. It has pretty much every street there is, and is easy to follow. I only wish that it used a bigger scale - I would really like to have one county per page instead of four. Overall the book is great, and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
