Raising your own child from has to be hard enough. But when you come into a childs life, and their outlook, mannerisms, and attitude are already developed, it has to be even harder to be a step-parent. While there are hundreds, if not thousands, of parenting books on the market, I don’t know if I have ever seen a parenting tips guide for step parents. Which is why I decided to check this one out.It guides you through the important steps, while at the same time, giving you advice and encouragement. For example, one of the big things is to make sure you don’t force a relationship, wait for the relationship to create itself. That’s a really important step, since the child might not be ready, or even resent you for trying to replace their “real” parent. There is a lot of advice along those lines, to help you start a healthy relationship with your step child.I thought it was a very interesting read. I never thought about how much different the two parenting styles would have to be, but after reading this, I completely see where the differences are. I recommend this for any parent, but especially new, or soon to be, step parents.

I will be marrying someone this summer who already has 2 children, and since I don't have any, I was a little nervous. This book is very helpful and comforting and walks you through what to expect with my new children. It offers guidance and solutions for many potential issues and how to approach them effectively. Highly Recommended!

This is a great read for step parents and people in step families. As someone who has experienced the challenge of having a step family, I can say that this book was very helpful. This book is full of advice for step parents. If you are looking to better understand your step children, this book will provide the insight you need.

I actually bought this book out of curiosity but I'm glad I did.My brother is step parenting and he has been struggling.I think some of the ideas in this book will be helpful .I enjoyed the chapter on expectations, and that setting high expectations is not a good idea.Helpful book.

Coming from a blended family, I can recognize a lot of mistakes my parents made. Now being in a similar situation myself, I am trying to not make those same mistakes. The advice this book provided is amazing and so down to earth. Nothing in this book makes you feel like you are being a bad parent to your own child or step parent to your spouse's child, it is just good solid advice that will help you in blending your families. I will definitely be referring back to this book in the future and will recommend this book to anyone in this situation.
