I loved reading this book to my grandchildren as it has a lovely theme and wonderful illustrations!. I feel it is important that children also visualize what they hear and the drawings in Marcel are truly beautiful. The important reality of often welcoming another person into our world and the changes it brings is coupled with a beautifully illustrated journey through the city: from the classic blue coffee cup, to our diverse skyline: skyscrapers, tenements and brownstones as seen through Marcel's eyes! Important lessons learned in lovely themed and colorful book, one that I would highly recommend. Informative, bright and happy!
Marcel is a New York pup who is very happy with his life and his Human. But change, in the form of a second human, is coming to his world. This new human takes them to new places and steals Marcel's spot on the couch. Can Marcel ever accept the new person as part of his family? This new picture book from Eda Akaltun has a sunny, funny tone to it. Marcel is a wonderful, if occasionally naughty dog and he tells a good story. But the illustrations take this book from ordinary to over-the-top fantastic! Page after page of bright colored collage brings New York to life. You will have to read the book twice at least. Once for the story and once to study the illustrations that add depth, humor and sparkle to the story. This is a perfect story to read with a child. Take your time and talk about what's going on with Marcel and in the background.Marcel was published by Flying Eye Books, which I was not familiar with. So, of course I looked them up. I was quite impressed with their catalog and plan to explore further. I'm so glad I chose Marcel to review.
I am a HUGE fan of Marcel!! The designs are truly wonderful, not only for children, but adults too! The story is charming and endearing to all. You don't want the book to end! Also, what a great way to depict NYC, and the energy that exists in such a special city! Eda takes us all around and through the streets of NYC through her exciting artistic vision and the eyes of cute Marcel!Love the story in everyway and I can't wait for the next one to come out!
