I wish I would have had something like this when I began my journey as a Stepmom. It's a very easy to follow book with great tips no matter where you are in your journey.
I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a quick and easy read with many stories and tips from other stepmoms, giving readers the reassurance that they are not alone in their experiences and feelings. This book is great for both new stepmoms and old pros!
I received a review copy of this book and was very impressed with the suggestions and tips provided for stepmoms. I wish I'd had this to refer to as a new stepmom, especially regarding blending your family and setting realistic expectations for yourself and your spouse. Stepmotherhood can be very challenging - I know that I sometimes have a feeling of being in a "no win" situation when there are issues with our my husband's ex or my stepdaughter, and I've struggled with finding my place in my stepdaughter's life. It's also hard for people who aren't stepparents to understand or relate to the complexities of the relationships - as a stepmom, you're expected to be a loving mother to your husband's child (who already has a mother), yet you aren't supposed to try to take her mother's place in any way, give parenting advice, be involved in your stepchild's school functions, lose your temper, or become too affectionate or too distant. It's also challenging to set expectations for your own children when your stepchild has a different set of expectations - yet you're supposed to make sure everything is always "fair and balanced" between all of the children in your family. I felt like this book understands these issues and provides some realistic examples and suggestions on how to maintain your integrity and composure even in the toughest situations. I would definitely recommend this book to both new and "seasoned" stepmoms - great resource!!
