“Bones don’t float, no.”In the quiet, coastal town of Apalachicola, the past is never far behind, and secrets don’t always stay buried. When a young girl is attacked, Lt. Maggie Redmond draws on her own experience as a rape survivor to give the girl the help that she herself never got, but in the process finds herself doubting her judgement, her commitment to the law, and who she believes herself to be.Maggie’s also increasingly confused about her feelings for town crime lord Bennet Boudreaux. If she really loves Sheriff Wyatt Hamilton, why is she so unwilling to walk away from her strange friendship with this enigmatic man with the startling blue eyes? What is the secret from the past that connects them? The answers will turn Maggie’s world upside-down and make her question everything she thought she knew about herself and her past. In her efforts to rescue a defenseless young girl, Maggie finds that maybe she is the one who needs rescuing.

I won't let slip any spoilers. I love and respect the author too much for that. What I will say is that I love this series of books, I adore every one of the characters (both human and animal), and I wish I were a slower reader to make each book last longer. Dawn, you always manage to sneak in a surprise or two. And you always leave the audience wanting more. Congratulations on Awash. Now get back to work on book 7. We are waiting.

My husband and I are mystery readers, so I bought the first book (Low Tide) in the Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series on a whim. The surprise ending sent me back to to buy its sequel (Riptide), and on down the line. We've been looking forward to Awash. It came out yesterday, so we both hunkered down with our Kindles yesterday evening and read well into the night. In a few words, it delivers--and then some.Ms. McKenna is a skillful writer. Her characters are so well developed (I especially love Miss Evangeline) and her plot twists keep readers on their toes. I don't generally like romances but these books are so well written that even the romantic elements are fun. Can't wait until #7 in the series comes out!

If only Dawn McKenna could write as fast as we can read her wonderful tales of life in what appears to be a small, quiet coastal town. Her characters are marvelously well developed, so much so that you feel if you visited this town you would recognize Boudreaux, Miss Evangeline, " Stoopid" as they went about their business. The stories are quintessentially Southern, yet they could be set in any small town. There is no privacy for those who may wish to be less visible. Yet one glaring secret remains unspoken, continuing to impact lives directly and indirectly, for three generations. When will it come to light and its powerful hold on many lives be diminished ?

What can I say? I've read all of the author's books and they just get better and better. Picking up a new Dawn Lee McKenna novel is like dropping by a friend's house that you haven't seen in some time, then a bunch of other old friends drop in unexpectedly. Her characters are people I've grown to like and miss, when they're not around for awhile. Her writing style is downright entertaining. You'll feel what's happening to the characters and there are times when you will laugh out loud.ET with a taser? Seriously? I still laugh thinking about Wyatt's assessment of the crime scene at the ice cream store.

Once again Dawn McKenna has hit a home run. I have recommended her series to a multitude of friends and they, in turn, have recommended to their friends. Not one bad feedback in the process. This author has developed a series and a cast of characters that will have you clamoring for the next book. This one is no exception as the heroine is forced to look into her past while helping a current victim. I am being intentionally obtuse so as to not give away the plot but I will say, for those who have read the entire series, the ending will really give you pause to consider. For the Dawn McKenna readers ( who I hope are becoming legion), you will REALLY enjoy the developing relationships in this latest effort. For those of you who are looking for an "new" author that you can enjoy unabashedly, this is the one. BUT!!!!! start with the first book in the series or you will be completely awash (No pun intended. Ah, what the heck! Yes it was.)

I loved this book, as I did all the previous ones. There were two scenes that managed to get me laughing out loud (one of them to the point of tears), and several heartbreaking ones that made my heart clench.I also adore McKenna's writing. There are lines in her books that stay with me long after I'm done. I usually don't quote, because I don't want these nuggets spoiled out of context, but this one stuck, and it doesn't need context:"Night, buddy," she said, then kissed the top of his head, taking a moment to inhale his scent of Herbal Essence, sun and boy.It was good, I'm sad that it's over, and I can't wait for the next one.

You never fail to entertain, Dawn. As always, I loved this book and I find that I can't wait to read Miss Evangeline's say. She is a treasure. It's not hard to see how you have come to regard your characters as your extended family. They are wonderful. You're doing great, so don't slow down. Not to be pushy, but we're already waiting for No. 8.

I'm a huge fan of Dawn Lee McKenna. When I read the first book in the series, I was impressed with how the characters were constructed and how the story lines were so believable. You can't help falling in love with the main character. She's everything you would want a police officer in a small town to be. As always, when I finish the latest book in the series, I want to read the next installment immediately. Well written, believable and interesting with some mystery thrown in but it is the character interaction that makes the series so sustainable.
