Once again, sinister things are afoot in Apalachicola, FL, and one of them is an actual foot. When a local fisherman finds a severed limb in his net, it sets off a chain of events that no one can anticipate.Lt. Maggie Redmond soon discovers that the foot belongs to the friend of another recently dead guy, Gregory Boudreaux, the man she never told anyone about. Gregory’s death was thought to be a suicide. That seems less likely, now that his best friend Sport’s foot has shown up out of the blue, as it were. When it starts looking like town villain Bennett Boudreaux might be responsible for eliminating Sport, things begin to get a little weird. Especially since Maggie’s started to take a liking to Bennett. She’s also taken a real liking to her boss, Sheriff Wyatt Hamilton, but both her relationship to Bennett and her secret connection to the dead men threaten hers and Wyatt’s relationship. Is Bennett protecting or avenging Maggie for some reason, or does he have something altogether different on his mind?Editorial ReviewExcerpt from review of Low Tide, Book One in the Forgotten Coast Florida Series: Ms. McKenna is able to introduce you to a character and make them so lifelike and real, that you're certain she's telling you about someone she knows very well. As for twists and turns, yeah, you'd better buckle up. Florida writers need to watch out, or better still read Dawn McKenna's books. She's the real deal. Wayne Stinnett, bestselling author of the Jesse McDermitt series About the Forgotten Coast Florida Series:The first four books of the series, Low Tide, Riptide, What Washes Up, and Landfall, lay the foundation for the entire series. There are subplots resolved in each book, but there is also an overarching plot that is not resolved until Landfall, so they should be read in sequence.Subsequent books in the series will be both longer and stand alone novels that can be read in any sequence.

I said:I enjoyed this from the first page. Nice characters that develop convincingly. Some mystery, romance, pathos. Have already read the second, just as good. When so many writers are actually narrators this is a standout piece of storytelling that engages the reader in the key characters' lives, hopes and fears.About the first episode. This 2nd outing has all that in bags but is slightly better I think?Grittier? Characters becoming even more complex.Have pre-ordered episode 3

After finishing Low Tide, the very promising entry to the Forgotten Coast series, I was curious to see how Dawn Lee McKenna would follow up. How would Boudreaux, Maggie, Wyatt, and David develop? Not only does McKenna not disappoint, she exceeds already high expectations with this exciting, well-written sequel. The characters are multi-layered, their actions believable. And as McKenna showed in Low Tide, she can wallop you when you least expect it. Without giving away the story lines, there are two jaw-dropping moments which will turn you inside out. I admit to getting a little too close to fictional characters when I read, but I actually cried during Riptide. That's a rarity for me, and it speaks to McKenna's skill at bringing you close to her characters. The feelings of grief McKenna's characters experience ring true to anyone who has ever lost someone close.I've already pre-ordered book 3. I hope the Forgotten Coast series continues for many, many novels. It's a heck of a world to get lost inside of, and I really love these characaters. But if McKenna kills the rooster, I'll never forgive her.

Getting better and better.I find of all the current Florida mystery writers, I am enjoying McKenna's books the most due to character development. The writing and plots are getting better as I get into the series.I am not a mystery nor a crime fiction fan so need good characters to bring me into the work. McKenna has done a great job of drawing the reader into the landscape also; almost feel like I am there. She also has a knack for writing animals which is not an easy skill. Stoopid and Coco are believable and a joy.

Great story with mystery, intrigue, corruption, attempted murder and murder all wrapped together in a small coastal town. The main character Maggie Redmond, a Sheriff's Investigator, daughter, mother and lifetime resident is not only investigating and unravelling cases of mystery and murder, her life past and present is wrapped tightly in her most recent cases. After I read the 1st book I purchased the rest of the series books that were available.

I read this book in one sitting. I couldn't wait to get to it after reading the first in the series, and it definitely did not disappoint! Even better than Low Tide, this novel had so much depth and heart, mixed seamlessly with the heart-stopping suspense scenes. I'm absolutely hooked on this series, and I can't wait until book 3.

Since I have started reading your books, I can't seem to put it down. Outstanding. I love the story behind it. You never know what's around the corner. I have now read two and am in the process of purchasing the third book. I'm sure it will be as good as the first two. Keep up the good writing. I love it. Thanks.

Returning to this series is a pleasure. I was surprised to find how deeply attached I already am to the characters in this book. It had me laughing out loud and tearing up at different sections, and since I've read it in public, I've probably acquired the reputation of an eccentric individual because of it. It's a bit hard to review this book without some major spoilers, so I'll keep it short and to the point. If you've read Low tide and liked it, this book is even better. If you haven't read Low tide yet, buy it before this one, as the order is important.Just as a side note, if Dawn McKenna ever writes a spinoff series which follows only Stoopid the rooster and ninety year old Miss Evangeline, I'll buy it without hesitation.

Riptide fulfills the promise of its predecessor, Low Tide, and firmly establishes this author as a force to be reckoned with in the literary world and the mystery/suspense genre. Never a dull moment, the book moves ahead like a fast moving train. You'll enjoy the ride all the way into the station and find yourself wanting more. Can't wait for the next book in this series!By the way, I read another book by Dawn Lee McKenna, also available here on as an ebook or paperback, called See You. Totally different type of story but absolutely brilliant. Reading this book, you'll run the gamut of emotions from joy to sorrow, laughter to tears. It's a hauntingly beautiful book. Do yourself a favor and read it.
