A definite evolution of the plot and characters from the first book. Like all good stories, this has a good character-centered plot. Not just a good plot with weak characters. Perhaps a bit too much action for the characters - they don't seem to be able to keep themselves out of trouble. But the author is not afraid of suddenly killing off interesting characters. The author is knowledgeable and realistic about the science and military aspects portrayed in the books. Heavy on military, lighter on science - but overall a good read.I am interested to see where the author goes with the story line in future books and highly recommend this series to fans of good military science fiction. I give it a good 4.5 stars but have to round up for this review.
The author kept me entertained, while keeping me wanting more. This series has just the right mix of space combat, and individual adventures, to make.it a great read. I'm certainly looking forward to the next book, and beyond!
Like I said, it's a good story. It has an interesting back drop and decent fantasized technology.. the problem I find is that the entire book feels unedited or unfinished. Typos are common, I even found a typo in a chapter title, if you can call the repeated "Slade"s and "Walker"s a chapter title. The story needs more details, and I find the aliens lack unique identity, they all seem human in personality.Could use a better editor, if the author even used one.
I like the story but it was not proofed. I t is missing at least one page of the story and there are different print sizes n fonts in the same area. Around the beginning. Very sloppy. E-books need d to do better.
I really did like this book, although I liked Scorpion better. The first half of this book dragged a bit for me but the second half more than made up for it. All in all, I would recommend this series starting with Scorpion.
"Starship Desolation" is Book 2 of "The Galactic Wars," and is a badly written, badly conceived follow on to Book 1 (which was pretty bad too). The author has a SciFi narrative that is insufficient to cover the apparent sexual fantasies of a sadistic adolescent. The lead female character is subjected repeatedly to physical and potential sexual assault, sold into sexual slavery, and has a nano brain control device installed to instill compliance. The lead male character likes to crush insects in his past time. Last book, "shit" was the author's preferred word; this book, "ass" is the preference. Given a good portion of the book takes place in brigs, a prison ship, and a penitentiary, it makes you wonder about the author's life experience. The "About the Author" blurb appears to be a warped fiction, penned by an book agent or a possible sociopath. The editing and proofreading are incompetent, with wrong words, improper portion grammar, and identical words immediately following each other in passages. Oh, the book is titled "Starship Desolation." Why no appearance of the aforementioned in ANY part of the book? This was not a bad SciFi book you could laugh at. This is so bad, that you get a low grade, dull headache.Read fully via Kindle Unlimited and NOT recommended.
I like your stuff. Enjoy your characters. Have read the entire series so far.... But here's the thing, I was so damn annoyed by the constant bs weak mechanic of cliffhanger character switching throughout the book that I wanted to bust you one in the jaw. Stop it! Once in a while is fine but every 5 paragraphs pissed me off.
I enjoyed this second book in the Series. It concluded all the questions I had at the end of the first book. It added additional characters which should prove interesting in future books. Good job 😊
