I used this book when I was getting married and now I buy it for every one of my girlfriends when they get engaged! The best part of the book is the list of questions to ask each vendor, it makes you think about a lot of important details that wouldn't come to mind as a first time bride! Highly recommend even if you aren't on a strict budget!

This book is full of good solid advice that you can either use or interpret into your own Special Day. It was one of four that my daughter purchased and was definitely worth its purchase price.Every Bride has a different idea of what their wedding to be and this book presents a wide variety of options for the bride and her mom to consider. Yes, some are tacky, others are on the edge, but the book covers a lot of ground. The wedding industry is complicated and out to make money by creating a buzz and whirlwind of a special day. This book can help the bride sort through a lot of decisions that need to be made.

I was feeling overwhelmed with wedding planning and all of the pressure of traditions and etiquette and formality. This book reinforced how I was feeling about the unnecessary rip offs in the wedding industry. Gave me lots of great ideas.

This book cuts to the chase of wedding details- what you need to know, how you can save money, what matters, what doesn't. I LOVE IT! Perfectly neutral 3rd party info- they do not receive any kind of sponsorship by any wedding vendors and include lots of feedback from brides. This has been in my purse the past couple months and will stay there until my big day! Chock full of helpful info!!

Very helpful information for cutting costs on wedding expenses. It contains a lot of common sense and has ideas for a range of budget considerations. I appreciate the websites they provide, and the tips about being mindful and wary of the bridal industry pitfalls. I walked into a bridal store with my daughter and when she found a dress she liked, they informed us that this particular dress was on a list that indicated there might only be a few left in the warehouse in her size and they could only hold the dress for 12 hours (which would have put the deadline at 4 in the morning...hmmm). Remembering the advice in the book about how some businesses pressure brides into sales, and since the dress wasn't "perfect," I encouraged my daughter to "walk away," which she did. There are a lot more places to shop and try on dresses and thankfully we didn't sign on the "sorry-all-sales-final" dotted line.I highly recommend it as a valuable resource in the wedding planning process.

Very happy with this book. Gave lots of straightforward tips, tricks, and ideas to save money on a wedding --namely, by not getting screwed over. I've put a fair amount of these practices into place. Really appreciated that the authors include stuff from their own experiences and things they've learned by talking to wedding-oriented companies, but also included stories and experiences from other brides.

This book has helpful hints like suggesting that one good way to find a reasonably priced caterer is to ask friends who've recently had events catered who they would use. It's not that the advice in this book is bad, for the most part: it's that all of it is common sense. I gave two stars instead of just one because there are a handful of bridal dress store reviews and information on various flowers that potentially have some value. Otherwise the book was a waste of time and money. Other books like A Practical Wedding Planner: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating the Wedding You Want with the Budget You've Got (without Losing Your Mind in the Process) were much more useful. They not only explained alternatives, they discussed possible downsides or complications to non-traditional choices and how to handle them. (By the way, it also had a great guide to wedding flowers as well.)

The info is a little dated but good for a general info read if you don't have access to Google or friends for some reason.... I stopped reading after maybe 30-40 pages just because it was easier to plan a wedding using info from the internet and friends. :P Plus, when I shared some of the interesting advice in there, I got some mixed reactions from friends who have been married within the last five years. That being said, I did learn some useful things from the parts I did read, and the book had a great price.
