The book is being used in a dimensions of professional nursing RN to BSN program. One section, written by Sister Rosemary Donley reads like the Democratic Party manifesto about healthcare reform. She does not express any opposing viewpoint. Lots of worthless fluff in this book too.I feel like this book jumps around, starting with dealing with your professional career and ending up discussing politics. Will this advance my career in professional nursing....I don't believe so. Like most textbooks this will not be included in my professional library.

This book is far more dry than it has to be. The information is fairly generic and hasn't really helped that much with in class discussions. A lot of the chapters feel as if they would have been more appropriate at the length of a single page. Unfortunately I suspect most people buying it have to buy it because of a class.

Had to buy this for class. It was a difficult read. Actually stopped trying to read it because the instructor did not refer to it very often. Avoid buying this at all cost. Once again, it was a very difficult read.

It's surprising that a book in its fifth edition would have so many typos. This book was required for a class in an RN to BSN program. Having my BSN will let my career advance, so to that end I would say that this book delivered on its title. So far as textbooks go, this one one was pretty informative. However if I could do it over again, I would have purchased the fourth edition instead.

This was a required textbook for my RN-BSN program. I've read a lot of college-level textbooks and this book seemed like it was trying too hard to sound scholarly, if thats possible. Yes, there was useful information but it was presented in what I felt was overly-wordy language that detracted from the actual material and made it difficult to get through.

Required text for my RN to BSN transition course. While not the most interesting read, it wasn't as monotonous as other textbooks. I think the best information was in the chapter about the politically active nurse and how to present research and testimony to influence legislation in healthcare. Would not buy if it were not required for school.

This is a college textbook, written in small print and very boring material to boot! There is some good, useful information in the text, but it is just so darn boring and there is so much to wade through. Nothing wrong--just a boring college textbook.

Many of the other reviews state that this book is dry and boring and while I can see how it isn't as exciting as nursing texts with a more clinical focus, the content upon which this text focuses is truly essential to the expansion of your professional nursing practice. This text does a commendable job of concisely and succinctly reviewing many different non-clinical aspects of nursing such as the role of theory, research methodology, quality initiatives and so on and so forth. If we as nurses want to expand our roles within healthcare, having at least a rudimentary understanding of each of these subjects is required. This text is a wonderful resource for any nurse looking for a single volume introduction to these important realms of nursing practice. I do think that the title is misleading however.
