This is a required text but parts of it seem simplistic and other parts seem to offer advice on how to follow the letter of the law when dealing with employees. Definitely represents a corporate management view when addressing dealing with employees.
I'm already working as an RN and just wanted some tips to help me as a floor nurse. I've been an RN for over a year now, I have to manage 4 other people and deal with other issues from management and family members. I really, really like this book. I've learned a lot and I'm only 1/2 way through it. I did skip parts that I wasn't interested in, since I'm not using for school. Easy to read and gets to the point, for the most part.
Had to buy it for my online nursing management course.. It's almost identical to the 8th edition for the exception of one chapter (which we didn't even cover) so this is a good way to save a few dolalrs. Not my favorite class but the text was fine for the course material
This text is a basic nursing school book. It is not as good as Yoder-Wise's book and Kearney-Nunnelly's book on nursing leadership. The chapters in this book present the material as well as can be expected and the chapters are not overly long. Theories of leadership and management all start to run together and the different frameworks of organizations are not very exciting material to read.
I had to use this book as part of my nursing leadership class. I truly believe that this book should be a classic for all nurses aspiring to a leadership role.It truly provides building blocks for leadership skills for all.
As a registered nurse back in school for her BSN, this book has been a wonderful resource. I would highly recommend it! This is one book that I have added to my nursing library.
If you are looking to learn about every last detail of business management then this is the book for you. It breaks it down so far it is ridiculous. I pitty the people who have this as a required text, it is a tough read.
This is a great book. It is easy to read. It comes with an online companion to the book so it can supplement the readings. I also love the fact that at the beginning of each chapter there is a little box that tells you the exact definitions you need to focus on in the chapter. It makes it so easy to study. Highly recommended book. Plus it not intimidating like a lot of other nursing books.
