I had to buy this book for a nursing management class. Here are my complaints...it is not very concise (it rambles on and on) and the Preface states that there is an online companion to accompany the book but does not give you a website. It does not exist. On the plus side, there are a few NCLEX-style questions included, on the down-side, there is no way to check your answers because they are apparently supposed to be found on the non-existent online companion. I even called the Delmar Cengage help-line to find the website. The teenager I talked to put me on hold to look it up, then told me that I had to buy the answers and gave me an ISBN number I could type into my web browser to find the page that sells the answers. Nothing turned up. She then told me that she couldn't find anything on an online companion and that I was pretty much out of luck.
This is a dry, dry read. Hard to get through the small chapters, and the organization is a bit lacking. Pages are too busy. The "critical thinking" tidbits are the best part. Review questions are strange, and the only way to get the answers is online, one chapter at a time. Wish it was easier to study from!
The binding is pretty torn up and the first few hundred pages are at serious risk of falling out.I am able to do my homework, but i have to treat the page as if it were an ancient book from the Smithsonian.
It reads like stereo instructions written by a bureaucratic committee. Unfortunately securing a A in the class actually necessitated reading the foul thing, or at least lengthy selections from it. It is droning, dry, and unnecessarily verbose. It also takes a pro-management view of nursing in negotiations, taking the position that the nurses are labor, and the reader is management. That's a difficult position for nursing students in their senior year to take.My advice, then, to any student whose professor uses this book is to ask prior students how important the text is to the exams, and pass on it if at all possible.
It was a required text for a program, it was useful and the table's were very helpful to know for the NCLEX-RN. If you need it I'd get it; but only pay half of what the on-campus bookstore is asking for brand new texts and that would be a fair price.
This textbook provides every detailed information I need to assist me with my class. I know now that I will pass this course with flying colors.Thank you.
Got this book for a class, but I can see myself using it after the class to. I feel it is and will be very helpful throughout the nursing profession.
Used for Undergrad. Our professor had us use a lot. Although I am not really interested in management as much as I am about becoming a APN.
