Hope in Our Final Season will help identify the crisis in America in end-of-life care giving and offer one effective community solution to this gap in care through the Social Model Hospice home. It will also describe our human needs for that peaceful homelike setting as we face our final days. And it will offer a source of hope as we begin to prepare ourselves, and our loved ones for that last sacred journey.Every person in America will face the challenges of finding the best pathway for care when they are in their last days of life. Over 87% of us say we want to die at home; but 70% of us are dying in the hospital or nursing home setting. For an alarming number of people, dying at home is not possible, because they are alone and lack a family caregiver or the means to pay for their own round-the-clock caregiving needs. The resources for affordable facilities for end-of-life care in our communities are scarce or nonexistent. The millions of seniors across the country who need an alternative home for care and caregiving, at the end of their life, is now a national social crisis.

I work in this field, and echo Teresa Wolfs words about this crisis in our healthcare system. We need to decide as a "people" how we value our citizens, our neighbors, our friends, and our loved ones in the last days, weeks and months in their lives. Teresa shares a beautiful system that should be adopted nationwide. Please read and share this to help get the word out about how we can improve the care we all wish for each other at the end of life; Pain free, peaceful, dignified, loving care that supports the one dying, and the family and friends who must go forward without them.

This is a MUST read for anyone facing end of life challenges - either your own or a loved one you care about. The stories are real and captivating. The stories bring hope to anyone and the book helps us understand that facing our final season is just as much part of life as birth and the joy and trials we face anywhere along the journey. Hope in our Final Season helps us prepare for our own final journey and allows us to understand others who are facing their final days. Teresa writes with compassion and realism. You feel of her spirit and those who she helped.

I have been away from hospice volunteering for several years, busy with other volunteering. Teresa's book has inspired me to return to this "heart work". Not only are the stories interesting and moving, she also explains about the "Social Model Hospice", the very sort of resource urgently needed in our inexcusably complex and discriminatory health care system. I can't recommend it enough.
