I assumed this book would be a collection of all the Practice Makes Perfect workbooks, which have all gotten good reviews. Unfortunately, the preface states they only used certain elements from six of the other books, and in doing so, the organization and intuitiveness of the book has suffered.This book begins by assuming you already know the vocabulary and grammar to create complex sentences. It starts by explaining spelling and punctuation, but one of the exercises instructs you to translate sentences from English to Spanish while adding proper punctuation.For example, problem number 5 on page 7 says, 'They will give a lecture in the EU,' and the reader must translate to 'Daran una conferencia en la UE.' To create that sentence in Spanish, you must know how to conjugate 'to give' and the word for lecture, along with sentence structures that the book hasn't yet taught.Language exercises are helpful in reinforcing the knowledge you just learned, but only if you have the basic skills needed to do them, which the writer of this book didn't seem to take into account.Here are a few more examples from the first chapter on spelling and punctuation.Problem 2 on page 8 asks that you insert commas into their proper place in this sentence:'Hacen ejercicios montan en bicicleta levanter pesas y corren siete o ocho millas.'This is the sentence we're supposed to correct, but I have no idea what the vocabulary means, so I can't effectively practice what I just learned about comma placement following certain types of words. The answer key in the back states the sentence should look like this:'Hacen ejercicios, montan en bicecleta, levanter pesas y corren siete u ocho millas.
