This is a nice book for practicing handwriting. It does not teach the formation of individual letters, so it's not really for children just beginning to learn cursive. I am using it as practice for my daughter who is homeschooled. The quotes are nice and usually begin a good quick conversation about what they mean. The pages have separate sections on the top and bottom. The top shows the quote and gives a place to trace and practice a few of the words in the quote. The bottom gives blank lines to write the quote. Overall, a nice practice book.
I think this will really help me brush up on my cursive. I am am adult and don't find it condescending or boring. I'd definitely use this if I were homeschooling and will probably get an additional copy to use in my public school classroom.
I am an elementary school teacher and I was desperate for a painless way to teach both handwriting and character development. This excellent workbook satisfies both needs perfectly. I highly recommend it to other educators.
I work with high school girls who have learning disabilities. Two of my 12th graders were literally incensed that they had not been taught cursive writing beyond the 4th grade because they were considered "ineducable". Bologna! They are in mainstream classes doing very well, but they wanted to learn cursive writing. I sent away for another great book to start them off with the individual letters and they did beautifully. Then I bought them each a calligraphy pen when they got to "w", and their writing is beautiful. So I purchased this book because when I mentioned it, they became very interested in it. I gave it to them today, and they couldn't wait to start. The book has wonderful quotes that we are discussing as the girls go through copying them, so they are learning a great deal about colloquial language as well as learning to write. This is a wonderful book, and handled correctly, it can be much more than simply a lesson in copying. I highly recommend this book for anyone of any age who is learning cursive writing. I have, BTW, worked with children and teens with learning disabilities for over 40 years, so I am familiar with all of the implications of what I'm saying. Teens will NOT be insulted by this book because it's for 3-5 grade levels. If the student wants to learn, that's all they will care about. Fantastic book and very thoughtfully designed!
Nice little book for the intended purpose; however, it is skimpy for the price, maybe because it is a "school book" or some such thing. I guess I should understand that the demand is low on something like this; therefore, the price per unit needs to be more. But still, skimpy, not much there.
My daughter was never taught cursive in school, so we've been teaching her at home. This is by far my favorite cursive book we've found for the intermediate-level writer (beginners: shop elsewhere first). I think the publisher has done a commendable job in their choice of quotations to include.
My daughter is going into 4th grade and her handwriting is very sloppy. I purchased this book to give her practice. Not only does it provide the practice that she needs, but it also gives her something to think about and sometimes even inspire her during the exercises. As a parent, I think it's an added bonus. I recommend this book to anyone who needs to practice cursive -- and could benefit from inspirational quotes along the way.
They do not teach cursive writing in school now, I want my child to know how to read and write it. What a nice way to do so, with writing out inspiring quotes. There are 40 quotes and when she is done with it, I ask her to write it several more times on her own. We always end up talking about what she wrote as well. We have looked up the quotes and learned more about it and about who said it. "I paid full retail value for the product and was not required to leave a review."
