We got this book for our inquisitive-minded kid; it's great because it's plainly written but not in a condescending tone (my kid hates that!). The illustrations are really good too. Our son tried a few of the internet links which were really great. Then it disappeared to resurface in the bathroom! Let's just say it's become a parent favorite too!

I had purchased for my 9 year old (who is a very advanced reader and gifted student) the Usborne World History book. She LOVED that book, and has read it cover to cover several times. I figured that the Usborne Science Encyclopedia would be similarly interesting to her. Wrong. She has barely touched the Science Encyclopedia. The problem with the Science Encyclopedia is that it is very complex and written at a very high level. I wouldn't recommend it for a child less than 14 or 15 and maybe even beyond that. However, as I have skimmed the book, it seems very good, good illustrations, good content. Just not for younger kids.

I bought this book for my kids 5 years ago, they are now 9 & 11 yrs old. They have used it so much the binding is almost worn off. The best thing about this book is how it lets the kids get as in-depth with a subject as they want. They can just glance over it without being overwhelemed or delve into a subject for weeks without running out of information. Great buy! It is one of 2 books I bought at the time that the kids still use, the other one was Usborne's Internet-linked Encyclopedia of World History.

Bought this for my fourth grader and she really likes it. The colorful photos are captivating and the links inspire them to want to look further into things. I would recommend this for a reference book or even a jumping off point to a self-made science curricula.

The encyclopedia is not bad with the coverage and internet links. However, as a reference book, it should be in hard cover. The book, with soft cover and poor binding, started to fall apart just a week after we used it. What a disappointment!

I bought this book for my nephew(8 yrs). It has a lot of useful information for a student his age, along with DIY experiments and links to more info on the internet. I definitely recommend this book.

Great reference for our middle school children (ages 11-13 - good but not spectacular students). Makes science research go much more smoothly. The book itself gives good basic information on a wide variety of science topics. The web links allow them to get more in depth information when needed, or to see some cool graphic illustrations. This book has definitely allowed our kids to do a better job with their science homework and reports. I am sure they will continue to use it through high school.

Very informative book an various aspects of science. I used this book as a reference in my classroom during a variety of science units. The facts that it gave were so interesting and engaging. It gave information that opened the imagination of the students that was hard to draw from the textbook we are required to use. Highly recommend this for any teacher to use with their students.
