This is the textbook I used for my Ethics class at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. It is a fantastic collection of ethical thought spanning 2,400 years. I was very surprised to realize how much of our own ethical thought, as well as legal system, is based on the beliefs and essays of previous philosophers. The best parts of this book are the introductions. Because this book is composed of exerpts from larger works, the introductions do a splendid job of giving the authors' historical background and explaining their writings. The introductions are so clear and concise that one could probably just read them and understand the ideas and arguments perfectly.

This book covers a wide range of ethicists and discusses their impact on ethics as a whole, while moving through their respective eras. I would recommend this book to any student interested in ethics.

Tough read. This is due in part that the authors seem to go back and forth about topics. It's as if they take you through their thought process and finally arrive at the point rather than logically stating what they are "attempting" to say. By the time I'm done reading a sentence, I've lost my train of thought. The formatting is all over the place and one can become lost in the topic at hand.

This book has been nothing but confusing. It holds good information but the wording is very hard to comprehend. It actually makes me just want to break out into tears because I can't understand it. If I can get past that I think I will pass this class fine. But as of right now, I have no hope.

What can i say it is ethics. I think this class is tough period. most people i have spoken to who come from different backgrounds and different age categories report the same thing..."it can be confusing". I know there are some people who understand ethics and the teachings without any problems; but the language they used only confused me and it didnt help that my teacher was also teaching logic..ugh

I'm glad I listened to other reviews before choosing to purchase this textbook. Instead I decided to rent instead. This book doesn't give good explanations of any of its content. I have to go to the Internet to get a good understanding of what I've read so far just to complete my assignment that are required for my class. This book is absolutely worthless.

Very interesting book. My used copy was a little banged up on the outside, but it was perfect for class and at a WAY better price than the campus bookstore.

I didn't not use this book very much for my class. I bought Philosophy for Dummies to accompany it so I could truly understand it.
