I have been a school nurse for two years and recently accepted a lead position in a new school district. I ordered this book as a resource for my new position and love it! I wish I would have ordered it when I started in school nursing. It has everything you need...forms, job descriptions, assessment techniques, review of school nursing history and much more. This book is a must have for anyone practicing nursing in the school setting.
This book gives a very comprehensive picture of what it takes to be a school nurse. My wife is a new school nurse, and this book has helped her dozens of times. Yes, it can be a bit dry at times, but what textbook isn't? If you want straightforward knowledge on the profession of school nursing, look no further. No book will have more information, and the NASN organization is the gold standard in school nursing.
I recently started working as a school nurse and find this text invaluable. I have used this as a reference for many situations that I have dealt with. I would highly recommend to anyone new to the school nursing field.

An invaluable resource for every school nurse. It's so easy to get engrossed in this book, you'll almost forget what you were looking up in the first place!
This will be my go-to book for everything school nursing brings along and it's a good basic textbook for nurses.
Realize that this book will give you a guideline but many questions on the NBCSN are not in the book- are not really researchable. I failed the last exam (Feb 2014) by ONE point- not percentage, one point. Some questions must be based on news stories because there is not a sure way to verify (think sexual predators).
I understand this book is suppose to be comprehensive, and I appreciate all the information it is trying to share. However the lack of illustrations really is a detriment to the book. It is very wordy....meaning I think it tries to explain even the simplest things in a lengthy, drawn out manner. The book is great if you are having a hard time falling asleep at night.....but unfortunately, the material is not presented in a very engaging, or interesting way.
