Starting with the cover this book has some funny stiff to it for sure. It makes you think and gives you a devil's advocate type of look at most arguments. It kinda makes me want to go to the water cooler at work just to practice my new learned skills. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review and believe it would be perfect for someone that debates a lot or like to have a different way to respond during their next discussion. Some of the fallacies reviewed in this book are Just Because, Spiritual Fallacy, Appeal to Authority, and Appeal to Fear to name a few. Each have a pretty good argument. With each of the fallacies an example is given, the mistake, the comeback, and the significance. I like that the book is current and mentions relevant areas of division in our country and political events. The political and religious views of the author are clear pretty early on and if you can get past that this book is a must read for various reasons, but I going to go with read it just because I said so.

I found this book in a search for a resource to help me improve my logical discourse. After reading several reviews, I decided this was the one.I really like this book and the style of writing. It has motivated me to look more into the subject. The fallacies and errors listed are discussed in accessible language and a perfectly abbreviated format (i.e. not too long, not too short). Nice, real-world examples are given to make the discussion very clear. My only reservation with giving this 5 stars is that the fallacies are listed in alphabetical order. That's great for an encyclopedia but awful for someone trying to learn. Many fallacies and errors are related and should be grouped together in chapters. In the ebook version, related fallacies, when referenced in order to show how they are similar or dissimilar, are hyperlinked. However, I find this very distracting and difficult to navigate. A second edition with the fallacies grouped together in a cognitively-meaningful way would get 5 emphatic gold stars from me.Also, a note on other reviews. Many reviewers gave this low ratings because it has a "liberal bias." I find that the book was well-balanced with real-world fallacies from both sides of the aisle, if they fall on either side of the political aisle at all. Furthermore, anyone who has read this book for understanding would know that just because a fact makes you feel bad doesn't make it any less true.Give this book a go. It would be a great reference for those who have a little bit of experience with logical discourse and, if organized by a talented teacher, could easily be used in high school or college for any class that seeks to improve a student's logical reasoning abilities.

I'm an avid reader (and debater of everything) and I still found myself drifting off into lala land while reading this book. It's an ok book, in my opinion, and would be greatly suitable for perhaps a debate team or speech class. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review

I like to consider myself a pretty logical person and I love to debate topics with other people, so I was excited to read this book. Unfortunately, I found it really hard to stay interested. The book does a decent job of covering all of the various fallacies and provides a few examples and tips for combating them, but I doubt this book would successfully turn anyone into a master debater or really make them any better at arguing a point logically than they already are.The book serves better as a reference. If you're reading something and it seems off to you and you want to confirm that the writer is utilizing some sort of fallacy, this book would probably come in handy. In terms of usefulness in a live situation....if you're really dedicated to going through all of these fallacies and memorizing them, then I guess it might help some, but I found the book to be very dry, the explanations not always intuitive and the examples not all that helpful. Most of this same information can be found on the Internet.I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

This book was interesting. I'd say it is more for someone on a debate team or something like that. The average person might take a few tips from it but it would definitely be more useful for someone who needs to make arguments for a living or in a class. The book talks about many types of arguments, how to respond to them and real life examples. The examples revolve mostly around politics which I am not into. It would have been more interesting to most people if the examples were from normal every day life. The language in the book is a bit formal also. I think the book would be great as a text book for a debate class.I received this product for free for my honest unbiased review.

This book was incredibly interesting to read. I loved how the arguments that people may use, and why they were wrong, were presented in a clear matter of fact way but the book still managed to be funny and entertaining. Had this book been a *dry read* it would have been boring an not worth it, but since it was entertaining, it was very easy and pleasant to read.I wish I had read this when I was on the debate team, it would have taken my arguments to the next level. I love being able to call people out in the specific error they are making, because most of them do not realize they are making one, and then they just look at you sort of dumbfounded. Often at that point, they lose the rest of their argument, as it drifts away, right out of their ears. This is why you must be careful when and where you deploy these tactics. I will not hesitate to do it to someone who is on the very rude side of social issues, but be more gentle with loved ones. It also helps listening to the current electoral debates, sorting thru that dribble.Great book, great info, good read!I received this product at no cost to test and write an honest and accurate review.
