I should start off by saying that I got this book for my 2, almost 3 year old daughter. She loves to learn and picks up on new words and ideas quickly. I knew this book would be a bit above her, but I figured it would be worth a shot.I’m glad I tried it! The book format was neat and easy to navigate. For example, the first landform was volcano. On the left was the word, big and bold, and then on the right was a description of a volcano. The descriptions are beyond her, of course, but I easily dumbed it down (I hate that phrase, but nothing else is coming to mind at the moment). When you flip to the next page there are two pictures, one of which is a volcano. I asked her which one was a volcano and she pointed to the correct picture! Love it!The only downfall is that it isn’t interactive (as far as I know) in that it says to put a checkmark in the circle of the correct answer, but you can’t click on it. This is minor though, sitting next to her and reading it to her I can tell her she got it right or to try again. She had a lot of fun with this book and I am very happy with it as well. I would recommend it, even to parents of younger kids like mine. I am a big believer in early education, there is no reason not to expose children to the world around us, even if they don’t understand it all just yet. It sets the on the right path. This is a great tool for that.I definitely plan on using more Baby Professor products!Full disclosure: I have received this product at a reduced price in exchange for an HONEST review. I take reviewing seriously (as I rely on reviews myself when purchasing products) and will only give 100% truthful feedback. I NEVER receive product in exchange for giving a favorable review. Don’t believe me? Check out my other reviews. A free product does not equal a 5 star review with me.
I have been looking for some books to read to my kids and stumbled upon this series. The first one I read was "Types of Air Around Us", which was quite disappointing. After that, I decided to go for an other one called "Types of Water Formations Around Us". If I had to compare this book to the "Air" book, I would say that this is definitely better, though the "Air" book is quite different (in style, font, etc.).On the other hand, the "Water" book is just like this one: same font choice, same style and format. Very nice!As just said, the format is really nice: it introduces the children to seven different types of landforms.- VOLCANO- HILLS- ISLAND- DESERT- FOREST- MOUNTAINS- PLAINEach word has a brief explanation next to it, and the following page contains two images asking the child which is the correct one. The idea is very good. Unfortunately it is not interactive (of course), so on the kindle the child can only point at the correct picture. The same page would though be more intriguing in the paperback version, because children could actually cross the right answer with a pen or pencil.Overall this book is nicely made, but it is very short and after "plain" the book drastically finishes with a blank white page. This is strange and almost irritating. It feels as if something is missing.I received a free kindle copy for testing purposes and I actually believe that it should be FREE for Kindle. I am not saying that it is not worth $0.99, but there are so many books for Kindle which are actually more elaborated and are still free, therefore this one should be too. AND, if the kindle version corresponds exactly to the paperback version, than the paperback version is definitely overpriced at $9.42 for how small this book actually is.
This is an excellent ebook for kids! As a teacher of elementary students, I would love to incorporate this ebook into a small group activity where I present a main idea or topic to the whole class and then they break up in small groups and discover more material on their own. My mind was continuously racing as I read through this book thinking of different projects I could make on this topic. It is the perfect age group to let them use a kindle to explore and what a better way to do so than with this ebook! I will totally let other teachers know of this opportunity and will keep this seller in mind with other ebooks available. I received this product free for reviewing purposes, however my opinions are all my own.
As I’ve seen with other books in this series, there’s a split in the design of the book and the vocabulary used. While the book seems to be geared toward younger kids- pre-K or Kindergarten aged- the descriptions and words are far too advanced for that age group. The vocabulary would be challenging for most 4th graders. As it is, my kids did enjoy the pictures and the guessing game, but I would like it a lot better if the descriptions were geared to the same age group as the drawings and activities.I received this product for free in return for my honest and original opinion.
I downloaded the book easily and quickly onto my tablet and used the Kindle app. It is important to note that the option was not available to download the book onto my Kindle Paperwhite presumably due to the fact the book is full of colorful images. This book is part of the Baby Professor series of books and the third one we have read that is science related. The book is short with a total of 32 pages that talk about the different landforms such as volcanos, hills, islands, mountains, etc. The length is perfect for my toddler whose attention span is extremely short! In addition, the book is full of colorful illustrations of each landform. For each landform, there is a brief description followed by two pages which ask the reader to correctly identify which of the two is the landform they just explained. I thought this was a nice, cute touch. However, some of the wording used at times seemed too difficult and there were oftentimes words used that would require explanation or research. Overall, I would recommend this book to any parent.Pros:1) This is short book full of facts about many different types of landforms.2) The book is full of colorful illustrations for each landform as part of the "quiz" portion.3) The reading is quick and relatively easy. (Some words may require explanation)Cons:1) It would have been nice if the quiz portion was interactive (at least it wasn't on my device). It asks the child to put a check mark next to the landform described, but there is no way to do that and it won't tell you the right or wrong answer.2) Some of the vocabulary used is a bit advanced.I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest review.
