I received the correct edition of this book with absolutely no errors so I really have no complaints. I do know, however, that for some reason early printings of this edition do have some math errors and typos. I guess it's just pure luck which one you get but I'm very happy with mine. Sure, it is basic math, but it teaches you some different formulas for specifically calculating dosages and conversions.
My nursing program uses this book and it was helpful and did illustrate how to do the problems in an easy to understand manner. However throughout the book there are numerous mathemathical errors that the author has as 'right' answers. Towards the end of the book they were all over the place so we ended up talking to our teachers to ensure the answers we had were correct.It is a great book to learn the process but I wish the author had taken extra time to review the math. So many miscalculations would be dangerous out in the real world.
I love the CD-ROM that came with this book. It makes the whole dimensional analysis process easy to learn and understand. After the first few lessons, I understand how to calculate a dose and an IV infusion rate and I haven't even read much of the text. Maybe it's just how I learn, but I find the CD-ROM alone to be worth the price of the book. If you have insecurities about math, this is the way to go.
I'm a student nurse, and have to take a medication calculation exam every semester. A passing grade is 100%, because you can't have an error in meds! This is a really wonderful book for learning all that you need to know. Material is beautifully laid out & explained thoroughly, and the practice exams mimic real practice.
This book is a good book for those who want to learn drug dosage and do not have a strong background in Math. It has a comprehensive step-by-step review for the math that is needed to master the material. As someone whose weakness is math, I found the book to be an easy read and walked a way with a weath of knowledge...
Ok if you have trouble with math like I do then this book is perfection! I have gone through the book 3 times in the past year of nursing school. Thank God for it! It gives a step by step guide, that builds knowledge from ground up! Highly recommend!
OK granted that I am "old school" and had to teach myself math (in chemistry). Seriously, this is the only way to do and learn med-calc in nursing school. Forget the ordered or have stuff or cross multiplication, learn stoichiometric math in one step this book helped me pass my med calculation tests, I only wish I had found it earlier...
I suck at math, but the explanations and examples are so clear, and there are pictures of actual syringes used in practice and common labels you would see at the hospital/clinicals. There are plenty of examples questions and answers provided as well.
