Do you feel your child is about to go into the world without all the "necessary" skills? Do you feel your loved one isn't adequately prepared to face life's most daunting challenges? Have you ever wondered what to do if you're stuck on a raising drawbridge? Are you so paranoid that you look for an escape to every situation? If you answered yes to any and/or all of these questions, then buy this book, NOW! This is your bible to every worst-case situation that life may throw at you, and more. But don't think this is strictly a humor book, and sure it may contain some of that, like how to escape from a costumed character/mascot, or you should escape a meeting by crawling under the table, but there's plenty of serious entries to go along. For example, if your elevator is plummeting, something I fear all the time, then you should lie flat on your stomach to distribute the force. They do go to experts for many of these entries, and although I wouldn't like to test any of them, I'm sure they're pretty useful in the situation. It's the best-of the long-time series, sure to help with most any predicament you may find yourself in. And for further reference, this edition contains a CD with ever scenario, in full, complete with a few wallpapers and screensavers for good measure. Just be warned, every scenario is in Adobe Acrobat format, which I hate since it's such a difficult program to navigate.Overall, you can't go wrong in giving this as a gift to somebody, whether you're giving it to them for practical or enjoyment purposes. I highly recommend it for any rainy day, paranoid people, or anybody who just ever wondered what to do if... well, you get the point.
I have a nephew who is into "survival" stuff, so I thought this would be a fun gift for him last Christmas. What I didn't realize is that some of the things in the book are not really appropriate for a 14 year old. His parents were not at all happy with me. :( For example, there's a chapter on how to tell if a breast is real or implants. While my nephew actually got a big kick out of it, and I suspect he and his friends may already talk about that stuff. But I really should have looked through it first and run it by his parents before giving it as a gift.
My wife and I are the survivalist types- we stock food, ammunition, water and medical supplies, we keep our kids fit and teach them useful skills etc... I bought this book because it came up on a search and since there weren't too many reviews, or even a detailed listing, I thought it was another survivalist book. When I opened the book, I was surprised, pleasantly, that it was not. The book format is similar to one of those "quote of the day" desk calenders, and it doesn't seem to have much of a cohesive theme to it, just a bunch of quasi-useful information scattered across a few hundred pages. The topics included instructions for peeing in a moving vehicle, tactful communication with your wife/girlfriend, how to make a toast at a party, how to avoid getting canned, avoiding being mauled by a dog, and how to crash land a plane on water. I imagine the narrator as Michael, the character in the show "The Office." It almost reads as if the information is meant to be taken seriously, but it's so wrong that it's funny. If I had known this book fell under the humor category, I probably wouldn't have picked it up, but I'm glad I did because I can depend on getting a laugh when I need one every time I open this one up. Definitely will look to buy more for gifts for my friends on birthdays.
This fascinating little book is a collection of How-To tips that could mean the difference between survival and a rather unpleasant demise. The authors rounded up the suggestions of a group of experts in their respective fields, and organized them by subject. Everything is covered here from How to Escape from a Sinking Car, through How to Escape from a Bear, How to Deliver a Baby in a Taxicab, to How to Survive When Lost in the Mountains. On the surface this book might seem like a book of useless trivia, but such is not the case. In fact, only this past summer, in the city of Joliet, a Chicago couple took a wrong corner and took a dead-end street into a river. If only they had seen the section on escaping from a sinking car.In all seriousness, this book does contain useful information that everyone should probably read at least once in his or her lifetime.
I just eat this stuff up, I really do. It covers a great variety of subjects and there is in fact applicable information for anybody (not just for stunt doubles and dare devils). It's way fun to read and share; gives great ice breakers. Also provides great delineation of what to remember, if you really do encounter one of the given situations. I found it more comedic than anything else, but it definitely is well written by pros. All in all, it was a fun buy.
I have been very entertained with this book since I was a child. This book is a very interesting and good read with lots of great situations from everyday life to the extremes. This book is great for emergencies but it's also good for everyday reading. It contains a lot of useful information gathered from other books in the series. Not only will you read about dangerous situations, but you will also be able to read about social situations such as meeting your date's parents. The facts in this book seem very logical. It's not made up and misleading information. The author of this book/series has put a lot of research into situations mentioned in the book(s). This book and its information is not a hard to read book at all. The wording is very simple for you to be able to actually remember some of the steps for situations. Everybody from ages 6 to 150 years of age will enjoy and love this book. For $16 this book is a very good deal. If you look at the other series (there are a lot) and add up the cost for each one, they come out to a ridiculous amount. This book is a combination of all the books except the history edition. It doesn't have everything in it, but it has the BEST of the BEST worst case scenarios. The book is also very well designed. The yellow cover and simple titling really make it attractive. The hard cover also adds to the "wow" factor. It's a great book to show off to your friends/family.For $16, you get an exciting read, amazing information, attractive book, and maybe your life! I recommend this book to anyone! It makes a great gift.
