Literature: Craft And Voice

Bringing writers to readers brings readers to writing. Today’s students do read―we know that they read a significant amount of email, text messages, web pages, and even magazines. What many do not do is read in a sustained way. Many do not come to college prepared to read long texts, nor do they come with the tools necessary to analyze and synthesize what they read. Nick Delbanco and Alan Cheuse have proven in their own teaching that when you improve students’ ability and interest in reading, you will help them improve their writing. A new part 1 in this edition frontloads information for students on both the writing process and the critical use of sources. Bringing writers to students, brings students to writing. Literature: Craft and Voice is an innovative Introductory Literature program designed to engage students in the reading of Literature, all with a view to developing their reading, analytical, and written skills. Accompanied by, and integrated with, video interviews of dozens of living authors who are featured in the text, conducted by authors Nick Delbanco and Alan Cheuse specifically for use with their textbook, the book provides a living voice for the literature on the page and creates a link between the student and the authors of great works of literature. The first text of its kind, Literature: Craft and Voice offers a more enjoyable and effective reading experience through its fresh, inviting design and accompanying rich video program.

Even though I bought this book for school, I will keep it until my daughter is old enough to read it. It has a ton of short stories, poems, and plays. Only a few were covered in the class I took so I look forward to reading the rest of the book in the future.

I actually really enjoy this book. It is perhaps the first textbook I will consider keeping after my class is over.A note- my intro to lit class for NICC heavily relies on this so it isn't a class you can skip buying the book for- the questions and terminology is specific and I imagine it isn't any different at other colleges. The older edition comes in three pieces and is different than this by quite a bit I believe, so you better stick with this edition and not try to save money.

I bought this book for my Intro to Literature course, but I am keeping it for the sheer volume of reference material and anthologized works by amazing writers.

I love this book but....it will fall apart quick. This book was used for an 8 week course and almost everyone in class, whether they bought their copy new, used or rented, the pages would come off the binding in sections. I would rate the content a 5, but the overall manufacturing of the book sucks.

Bought for a college course on Literature based research. Good collection of stories, essays and poems. Many popular and not so well known authors.

This book was exactly what I looked for in an literature book! Great information on short stories, poems, plays, and more. I highly recommend it!

GOOD FOR ENGLISH MAJORS AND A GREAT BOOK TO KEEP ON THE SHELF. DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE MAJORING OR INTERESTED IN ENGLISH

The book was marked used- Very good and the description described a few scratches and tears. You can definitely tell the book has been though quite a few careless renters. Just happy to not pay full price.
