This textbook was well worth the money. It is resourceful and up-to-date. I am very pleased with it. The writing and layout was very easy-to-read and comprehensive. I found the information useful for a variety of contexts such as environmental health, global health issues, program planning on international programs, and demographic analysis and data.

It is extremely smart and wonder of wonder, it is a textbook! The editors did a wonderful job at finding and melting together specialists of different branches of medicine such as public health, international health, health economics, reproductive health, health planning, etc. You name it, it is there, a strong introduction to the new faces of public health.I am not an MD, I got interested in the field decades ago, while seeing a map of how cholera spread on train routes in the 19th century. The fact is that if you have cholera and you walk, you will die close to home, if you take the train, you will contaminate people far away before you die. I thought, ha! This is like pollution, pollution does not know the borders and does not ask if you have a valid green card. Chernobyl contamination did not diminish with distance: you just had hot spots wherever it rained all over Europe. This is to say, if you are not interested in international public health, you miss the point. Wake up to a world where 40 percent of Americans travel by air at least once a year and we get about 60 million international travellers per year. Still not interested?Everybody should have this book as a coffe table book and browse from time to time. Let medical students study it seriously. But there is no excuse to keep from being informed (We see that every day with politicians who claim that we should not pay for the medical care of people who are here illegally. If your neighbor has TB, how are you protected?)It is great that some competent people THINK about it, and PREPARE. it is therefore an encouraging book to read.150 years after the great cholera breaks, we learned and we did a few things. Get informed, it is worth it.

I ordered and received the book, but feel misled by the "like new" description. The cover was worn, with a lot of highlighting and writings in the book. I appreciate that I received it, but please don't mislead customers like that.

very informative and although expensive, its worth it. There is a new version I believe.
