For those who are already ophthalmologists or are more senior ophthalmology residents and have a sound basis in the field, this book is not for you. However, medical students, non-ophthalmologists physicians or allied health professionals in primary care fields, or even ophthalmology first- or second-year residents will learn much from this book. To better understand what subjects are covered, here are the chapter titles:Chapter 1: The Eye ExaminationChapter 2: Acute Visual LossChapter 3: Chronic Visual LossChapter 4: The Red EyeChapter 5: Ocular and Orbital InjuriesChapter 6: Amblyopia and StrabismusChapter 7: Neuro-OphthalmologyChapter 8: Ocular Manifestations of Systemic DiseaseChapter 9: Drugs and the EyeThe book itself is in full-color with pictures of the eye and fundoscopic examination where applicable. The text is written in plain English and avoids overly-technical terms. An easy read.
This book provides excellent needed Data to famiy physician and is not " basic"!Every page I learned 1-2 very important points. Even recent images and studies that I had not got the concept in residency and or imaging techniques that have just come to provide care was presented. Very easy to read and has excellent diagrams and explains things in my language . Even has easy tests in the end of each chapter.Thank you very much. I am reading the book for second time.
Actually, my 30 year old son is switching careers from computer Information Security (IS) to, hopefully, a Physicians Assistant (PA). Someplace I have to get the him the ability to use the online student guides that go along with the book! But to quote him, pun and all, "it has been a real eye opener).Robert Ellenwood Son is James Robert Ellenwood. Prefers "JR Ellenwood"

At any rate, Every book from the American Academy of ophthalmology is great in general to me, this book i would say is pretty basic, but it's very neat, well organized and straight to the point, I'm from Recife in Brazil South America, and I really recommend this book for the beginning medical Student.
Good reference, great pics, exam pearls. Recommended for PGY 1-3 non ophthalmology students/residents
