This text has become an invaluable tool for the courses I teach in cross-cultural psychology, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Although many books purport to emphasize the integration of critical thinking skills with cross-cultural psychology, this is the only one that does so successfully. My students consistently rate it favorably, and I give it my highest recommendation.
How refreshing to find a book about cultural diversity that isn't rife with "politically-correct" mumbo jumbo. Instead, this text emphasizes using critical thinking tools to incisively see through the fog of current academic and social fads and fashions.
Cross-Cultural Psychology by Shiraev and Levy is the best textbook available for this field. The book explains concepts and theories very well. Additionally, it provides the reader with a very practical understanding of the field.I can readily imagine this book being used in counseling, clinical, or general psychology classes. In addition, I would argue that this book, even outside of the classroom, would be an excellent resource to keep on one's bookshelf.My strongest endorsement stands behind this well written book.
This is a great book and the price is excellent! You do NOT need the lastest edition because it is the Exactly the same information in each chapter.
Compared to my other college textbooks, especially my Psych books, this was a shock when we opened the package. The book was tiny in size compared to usual college texts, the pages were the old thinker, yellowish type, and there were no illustrations such as in my other books. Very hard to physically and mentally study from!
This text is easy to read and comprehend! It not only delivers information, but also makes you think critically. I recommend this text for anyone looking to go into psychology or sociology or any related field.
