The titular text is only 44% of the book. It's two sermons delivered around Halloween in 1982. Contrary to the title and blurb Halloween is only mentioned in what feels like afterthoughts. Though mask is right on point. It's all about the figurative meaning of wearing mask in your every day life. It's well written I guess.
If you love Campbell then you will dig this book !
I loved Trick or Treat: Hallowe'en Masks, and Living Your Myth. I have a deeper understanding and appreciation for Halloween. Joseph Campbell had a wonderful way of explaining the mysterious.
