I had the privilege of traveling to Africa with Jim Gash and meeting his Henry. Speaking firsthand, I can say this is truly a story written by God. This book takes you on a thrilling legal adventure from page one to the final word. Their story is fraught with challenges and joys, the theme of overcoming evil with good, and pressing on no matter what. Jim's writing style will often make you laugh out loud and then cry the next minute. His passion for Henry, Justice, and the Ugandan people leaps off the pages. I have given this book to friends and family members as gifts, and one by one they have texted me things like "I'm on page 173 on the first day I picked it up and I can't put it down." So fear not, this is a quick and easy read. Divine Collision is a book you will stay up late to finish, and think about long after it is done. It is a true labor of love, and inspirational to any reader.
No matter why you feel drawn to this book, you will not be disappointed. Gash’s book weaves together elements of an adventure tale and a legal thriller with a story that becomes a truly heartwarming testament to the power of friendship. As the story moves from California to Uganda and back again (and again and again, as it turns out) Gash provides a level of personal detail that gives the reader a sense of what it was like to be there on his amazing journey. This is true for both the big moments, like Gash’s first heart wrenching visit to the children’s jail in rural Uganda, and the small moments, like his struggles to perfect the Ugandan friendship handshake. But the most compelling thing about Divine Collision is the way we experience Henry’s story from his perspective. At every critical juncture throughout the book, Henry adds to the narrative in his own words. His faith, perseverance, and good humor shine through on every page.
I don't have a legal mind; at 61 years of age I am not always sure I have ANY mind to speak of... :) I downloaded Divine Collision because Katie Davis Majors of Amazima Ministries recommended it. But I didn't read it. I had other books to read, fish to fry, things to do. Then I started it and because the book has a number of flashbacks in the first couple of chapters, I decided it was a little too much work to keep up with what happened where, when, and to whom. So I didn't read past the 15% mark on my Kindle but instead set it aside for a "rainy day".Wow. I am sooooooo thankful we had a lot of rain this past week. Seriously. Somewhere around the 20% Kindle mark, I was drawn into the story, completely. Totally. So much so that whenever my husband and I were in the car together, I began to tell him the story, at one point checking to see if he was tired of being a captive audience. He wasn't - and wondered why I had stopped to ask such a silly question.Suffice it to say that I bought two hardback copies to give away and am thinking about re-reading the book as soon as I finish this review. It is an amazing, often nail-biting story of how two boys were thrown into an impossibly maddening, undeniably hopeless situation. But God...An American lawyer, his colleagues and his family. Two Ugandan boys tossed aside, unjustly locked up, forgotten. A Ugandan family restored. A nation changed. A sovereign God exalted. IF you want to see Ephesians 3:20, Gen. 50:20, and Romans 8:28 worked out in real time, you cannot go wrong with this book.
This is one of the most heart touching books I've read in a long time. I couldn't put it down for wanting help for Henry and his family. My favorite story to tell now is about the starfish. I truly feel if everyone took on a starfish story it would change the world! Thank you for writing this book, for making a difference and motivating me to long for a starfish of my own. Everyone needs to read this book- it can't possibly disappoint! "To God be the glory"
Absolutely fabulous! It is a gripping tale of faith and a prayer being answered. But it is also a look into some of the horrible conditions and trials these young men in Africa had to face, the injustices will make you mad, sad and happy that there are Lawyers in this world who serve not only the law but God as well.A really great book
I can't say enough about this book; I laughed, I cried, I rode the emotional roller coaster with Jim and Henry and in the end of the book my faith was strengthened. God bless you Bros. Jim and Henry; may God continue to use you for His glory!
I really enjoyed reading this book. What an incredible journey for all involved! I found myself praying for Henry and the other children as I was reading the book. Be prepared to stay up late reading this book. It is a fast paced God story that will draw you in and keep you hooked to the last line. Fantastic.
What a story of how people are brought together in ways we cannot even imagine. In a world of evil and greed it is so encouraging to hear that we can make a difference. It's so good to be reminded that love for our fellow man can change the trajectory of so many lives.I don't think there was a chapter that I didn't read through tears and laughter. This book is a life changer!
