This is probably the easiest and most approachable beginning textbook on Polish for self-learners that there is. Most of the others such as Polish for Dummies, Spoken World Polish, Complete Polish, and Polish in 4 weeks, are all at a higher level . . . well, higher in the sense that you need to absorb more vocabulary and more complex grammar tables right from the beginning. The few other beginning Polish books sort of assume they are meant for a classroom guided by a teacher and do not contain sufficient explanation on their own to be of much use. This book is linearly ordered, logically structured, and has interesting dialogues. It does teach you Polish grammar (not just random memorization), but it is not so overwhelming that it is unapproachable. It comes with a great audio CD that contain readings of the dialogues (and some exercises) by native Polish speakers. Lastly, it is also very comprehensive, and it can take you to a good intermediate level by the book's end. I can't recommend this book highly enough. The only other book on this level is "Polski Bez Problemu + Level 1", which I also highly recommend. In that case, make sure to get the + version as it makes a huge difference. Do a web search for "Supermemo World EU" because it is made by a company in Poland and is often out of stock on .
